REQUIREMENT 1
Prepare an outline on what a family is and discuss this with your merit badge counselor.

Tell why families are important to individuals and to society. Discuss how the actions of one member can affect other members.

REQUIREMENT 2
List several reasons why you are important to your family and discuss this with your parents or guardians and with your merit badge counselor.

REQUIREMENT 7
Discuss the following with your counselor:

Your understanding of what makes an effective father and why, and your thoughts on the father's role in the family Your understanding of the responsibilities of a parent.

WHAT IS A FAMILY?

Strong families are the foundations of strong communities. Family is the foundation for to physical, emotional, social, moral and intellectual development. Family life will have its up and downs. Sharing of faith and religious activities.

The Family Structure

No two families are alike. Each family forms its own set of values. Who is your family?

Security

Refers to physical and psychological safety. People are secure when their physical needs are met. Troubled family members who feel insecure may distrust and are suspicious of others. How do you feel secure?

Acceptance and Respect


You are important. Part of growing up is learning to respect yourself and others. There are many ways you can add to the strength, happiness, and well-being of your family (page 14).

Mutual Trust

Parents set guidelines to help protect you, help you grow, and help you make thoughtful decisions. What does trust mean to you?

Good Relationships and Communication Skills

Good Communication helps prevent misunderstandings.

Send clear messages, avoid roadblocks like:

Do your share of work in your family. Do your chores without complaining or being asked. When you carry out your responsibilities you show your family members that you love them and they can depend on you.
