Stress Management At Work Place


Definition:-Stress in an individual is defined as any interference that disturbs a persons healthy mental physical wellbeing. It occurs when the body is required to perform beyond its normal range of capabilities. Organization Stress:-An organization with a high level of absenteeism, rapid staff turnover, deteriorating industrial and customer relations, a worsening safety record, or poor quality control is suffering from organizational stress. Stress is contagious; anyone who is not performing well due to increases the amount of pressure on their colleagues, superiors, and subordinates. There are three categories of potential stressors: 1) Environmental factors: Changes in business cycle create economic uncertainties. 2) Organization factors: Role demands relate to pressures, Role ambiguity, Interpersonal demands, Excessive rules and lack of participation,org structure.etc. 3) Individual factors: Family problems, economic problems,etc.

Causes of Stress:1) Extra organizational Stressors:-social / technological change, the family, relocation, economic & financial conditions, race & class, residential or community conditions. 2) Organizational Stressors:- Work load, role demands, organization structure,etc. 3) Group Stressors:- Lack of Cohesiveness, Lack of Social Support, Intra-individual, interpersonal, intra group conflict Consequences of Stress:1) Individual: Cause directly and divided into behavioral, psychological, medical 2) Organizational: Include decline in performance, withdrawal and negative changes in attitude. 3) Burnout: General feeling of exhaustion

Suggestions
For individuals: To reduce this stress physical exercise & yoga should be done by individuals to feel calmness and ease while working. Also, meditation & prayer would help to reduce stress. Spending time with family and counseling for family members would help to reduce the work pressure. For organization: If the working conditions at work place are improved & made comfortable to work would help to reduce to time pressure and task demands. A rational allocation of work would help to maintain the level of co-operation & communication at work place. Also, Job requirements would be clear. Financial motivation would help to increase motivation in employees and reduce career stress. Training & development would help the employees to impart knowledge of new technology which would increase the level of relationship with subordinates. It would help to reduce nervousness of making calls to candidates and getting updates from them. Relaxation helps to reduce the health problems. An optimist employee can be given training and proper counseling which would help to increase his co-operation in the management and reduce overall stress. A leader should be an idol for the other employees and should be able to reduce the stress by reducing the pressure of work by handling their queries.
