Contributing to Libyas Future

Tripoli, Libya July 2012

Issue Statement
SDI as a concept now known and accepted internationally Convergence of technologies and perspectives providing significant new opportunities Libya has the opportunity to leverage SDI as an important cornerstone of eLibya Can provide an important common infrastructure in support of the Countrys development moving forward

GIS provides computerized tools for capturing, managing, analyzing, and visualizing geographic information
GIS supports many different types of uses.

GIS Can Be Used for Automated Cartography

More importantly, GIS has analysis, query and visualization tools to support many important uses

GIS is used widely to support planning and operations in nearly all sectors.

Increasingly network based, on the web, and now, the Cloud

At present, information is scattered in many agencies, in many different forms. Many agencies are collecting the same information, and there is little or no information sharing. An Information Infrastructure is needed to provide the technical and institutional framework for developing and sharing the most important information among all the sectors
