The main aim the project is to design RESEARCH AND IMPLEMENTATION OF EMBEDDED FACE RECOGNITION SYSTEM BASED ON ARM9.

S3C2440 (ARM9) camera 3G modem touch screen Pen Drive/ Memory card.

In the existing system by using cameras monitoring should be done continuously in the control room. To recognize a particular person/victim among the crowd by the person inside the control is not possible to identify and the chances of identifying the person is very less which is not accurate. So, in order to identify the particular person/victim continues monitoring is required without any interrupt.

The proposed system is designed to identify the person based on the images stored inside the pen drive connected to the USB port. The system is used to recognize the wanted criminals present in the large crowd. This system can be placed at bus stops, railway stations which will be used to find the criminals easily.

The S3C2440 features an ARM920T core a 16/32-bit RISC microprocessor to provide hand-held devices and general applications with cost-effective, low-power, and high performance microcontroller solution in a small form-factor. The S3C2440 is developed using 0.13 um CMOS standard cell and a memory compiler. In addition, it adopts a new bus architecture called Advanced Microcontroller Bus Architecture (AMBA).

The S3C2440 includes the following components: separate 16 KB instruction and 16 KB data cache MMU to handle virtual memory management TFT& STN LCD controller NAND flash boot loader system manager (chip select logic and SDRAM controller) 3-ch UART 4-ch DMA

4-ch timers with PWM I/O ports RTC 8-ch 10-bit ADC and touch screen interface camera interface AC97 audiocodec interface IIC-BUS interface IIS-BUS interface USB host USB device SD host & multimedia card interface 2-ch SPI PLL for clock generation.

General packet radio service (GPRS) is a packet oriented mobile data service on the 2G and 3G cellular communication system's global system for mobile communications (GSM).

Haar-like features are digital image features used in object recognition. A Haar-like feature considers adjacent rectangular regions at a specific location in a detection window, sums up the pixel intensities in these regions and calculates the difference between them. This difference is then used to categorize subsections of an image.

Frequency and orientation representations of Gabor filters are similar to those of the human visual system, and they have been found to be particularly appropriate for texture representation and discrimination. This filter is used for eliminating image noises.

Principal component analysis (PCA) is a mathematical procedure that uses an orthogonal transformation to convert a set of observations of possibly correlated variables into a set of values of uncorrelated variables called principal components. The number of principal components is less than or equal to the number of original variables.

The database regarding the photos will be saved into the internal memory of the micro controller. An external USB type camera will be attached to the MINI 2440 board through USB host port.

The captured image will be compared with the previous image which was already stored in the internal memory of the micro controller by using HAAR, GABOR, PCA algorithms. If any image captured is matched with the image which was already stored in the micro controller then newly captured image is stored into the internal database and which will be sent to mobile through GPRS module as MMS.

APPLICATIONS: Used to find the criminals in heavy crowd areas. ADVANTAGES: Low cost, easy to use for rural areas, automated operation, and Low Power consumption. REFERENCE: The 8051 micro controller and embedded systems by Mazidi. Datasheets and the user manuals of S3C2440 (ARM9).
