Procedures: 1. Prepare an empty plastic bottle, a small knife, two straws, some plasticines, a glass trough and a beaker. 2. Use the small knife carefully to poke two holes in front and back of the bottle. 3. Put the two straws into the plastic bottle. Then, use the plasticines to make the straws steady and fill the remaining gaps so the water wouldnt get in or out. 4. Place the functional prototype in the glass trough full of water. Find out why the functional prototype flout and sink.

We use some sands to make the bottle sink because the sands are denser than the water.

b) We use air to make the bottle float because the air is less dense than the water. c) A submarine will sink into the deep sea by filling its ballast tank with sea water while the submarine will float to the surface of the water by removing sea water from its ballast tank.
