PROJECT REPORT

Project Report
A project report is the technical research work/study/problem undertaken by students for detailed investigation.

Writing a project report


Project report should be feasible i.e. do-able in the short time that you have. The information should be readily available. The project should be focused on a particular aspect of the chosen area.

Example: Not Feasible: The impact of WTO rules governing future exports of Chinese textiles Feasible: The impact of WTO rules governing future exports of Chinese textiles to Europe

Primary and Secondary Research


Decide on primary and/or secondary research Primary Research: - If subjects easily available - If they are ready to provide information Secondary Research: - If primary research not the only option - If data already available and easily accessible

Report Format
The main components: Cover Keep the title length within a maximum of 8-10 words Add the subtitle (if required) for additional clarity Avoid vague, too broad or extremely short titles Title Fly A blank sheet of paper located between the cover and the title page Title page Contains the title Name of the sender Name of the recipient Name of the company or institution etc.

Certificate from the Company


Given

by external supervisor in the company or the head of the company Certifies the satisfactory completion of the project by the student Indicates reasons for doing the work Official authorization for research

Acknowledging the contribution/assistance of people in: Collection of data Providing facilities for interview Providing reference to records

Enlists

the topics covered: major headings and sub-headings included Page numbers for each topic given

List of tables/graphs
Enlists

Executive Summary
A

condensed, concise and accurate statement of what is important in the report Includes major findings, recommendations and conclusion

Introduction

Purpose of the study-Why this topic is of interest to you and the business community Objective of the study Scope of the study Literature ReviewWhat previous research has been done on this topic? Who did it, when and why? What conclusions did previous research reach? How relevant are these conclusions for your research? How will your research build on previous research? How is your research similar or different?

Methodology
It includes: Research design - i.e. population, sample, sampling technique Data collection Tools of data collection questionnaire, survey, field work, observation etc. Why particular procedure chosen in preference to other procedures

Data Analysis/Findings
Plan

of data analysis Why particular data analysis technique is used Use tables/charts/graphs to present data Enumerate various findings on the basis of data analysis

Limitations
Specify constraints in the form of: Time Resources Data availability

Recommendations
Suggestions

for improvement in the present study Suggestions to bring improvement in the working of the company

Conclusions
Conclusions

drawn by inference from the findings. State conclusion for each objective of the given problem. Conclusions should verify or deny the premises of the study

Appendices
Includes material supplementary to those given in the report. Example Detailed computation of data Copy of the questionnaire Interviewer instructions etc.

at the end of the report Given in alphabetical order Contains details of books, periodicals and newspapers consulted Give separate bibliography for books, periodicals and newspapers
