INTRODUCTION
A system of input and output can be described as one of the four types: SISO: Single Input, Single Output SIMO: Single input, Single Output MISO: Multiple Input, Single Output

MIMO: Multiple Input, Multiple Output

MIMO systems describe processes with more than one input and more than one output which require multiple

control loops

AIM AND OBJECTIVES

The aim of the study is to track and decouple multivariable non-linear systems. The objective of the study includes: Identification of MIMO systems.

Understanding the concept of coupling in MIMO systems and its effect.

Tracking of multivariable systems. Decoupling of multivariable systems.

METHODOLOGY
Understand the concept of coupling and decoupling and the effect of each on a MIMO system. Evaluate the extent of the coupling and the best pairing of input and output

using the Relative Gain Array (RGA).

Decoupling of the MIMO system using the developed algorithm on MATLAB Incorporation of Auto-tuned PID controllers to track the variables and enhance stability

Display of Simulations and Results

CONTRIBUTION TO KNOWLEDGE
The study of the project will enable an in-depth research on the selection of manipulative-controlled variable pairing The research will increase ones proficiency in predicting the bahaviour of controlled responses It enhances an in-depth research on the decoupling of MIMO systems, even to the extent of non-linear MIMO systems and the effect of decoupling on the systems. It also broadens my knowledge of the use of PID controllers in tracking of multivariable systems

WORK DONE SO FAR

Being able to understand the concept of coupling and its effects on MIMO systems. Understood and applied an algorithm for pairing of manipulated and controlled variables. An algorithm was designed for the decoupling of a 22 multivariable system. The designed algorithm was developed on a simulation software (Simulink) and results derived as expected. The decoupled system was then equipped with PID controllers to track the variables and enhance stability.

SIMULATIONS AND RESULTS

The developed algorithm was applied to a 22

multivariable system as shown in the following slides

G(s)=

1 (0.1+1)(0.2+1)^2 0.5 (0.1+1)^2(0.2+1)^2

2.4 (0.1+1)(0.2+1)^2(0.5+1) 1 (0.1+1)(0.2+1)^2
