Aims and Objectives

1) To study the effects of yogic exercises on risk factors for coronary heart diseases like the blood pressure, biochemical parameters like lipid profile, fasting and postprandial blood sugars, renal function and electrocardiography changes.

2) To determine the effects of yoga based exercises on left ventricular size, and dimensions in normal individuals and in patients with chronic coronary heart diseases by echocardiogram. 3) T o study the effects of training on measures of contractility, ejection fraction and fractional shortening in the above mentioned group and to compare the results. The extent of changes in ejection fraction in patients with CAD with varying degrees of left ventricular dysfunction will also be studied.,

METHODOLOGY
Inclusion criteria Attendees of patients in RMMCH and normal individuals would be included in the study and taken as control group( Group A) Patients with CAD attending the cardiology and medical outpatient department would be considered as study group (Group B) The age group of 40-50 would be included for the study to eliminate age related changes .

Exclusion Criteria
1) History of MI in the recent past2 months, unstable angina 2) Clinical cardiac failure 3) Undergone CABG or coronary bypass surgery 4) Habituated to alcohol 5) Patients with anxiety and depression 6) Acute medical illness 7) Athletes 8) Regular exercisers

Baseline clinical examination would be done. ECG, Chest X-Ray, biochemical parameters, (fasting and postprandial blood sugars, lipid profile, renal parameters would be measured. Detailed Echocardiogram analysis will be done. Measurements regarding LV EF, FS, LV dimensions in systole and diastole, posterior wall thickness, septalwall thickness, would be studied in detail. Group B patients would be further divided into three groups based on the ejection fraction. The study will be done at the start of the study and the groups would be referred to the yoga centre of the university to get supervised yoga training. After a period of 6 months, they would be evaluated and periodical assessment would also be done. The data would be analyzed.

CONCLUSION

Life style modifications. Effective in ventricular remodeling. improvement in the cardiac function both in normal and diseased heart . 30% to 40% reduction in cardiovascular and all cause mortality and morbidity . The left ventricular ejection fraction of the heart improves . But at the same time if the heart is dilated ,changes may not occur . To what extent ,the heart can remodel itself is the question to be answered.
