About Plan India


Plan started its work in India in 1979. Plan is affiliated to Plan International that works in 65 countries and supports

more than a million children worldwide.


Plan India is a child centered, Indian organization, registered under the societys registration act and has its independent governing board. It is a sister organization to Plan International Plan India focus group is Children in Difficult Circumstances Mobilizes resources and implements its own programs.

Plan is a 70 year old organization working in 65 countries

Plan has systems and tracking mechanisms for ensuring each rupee is spent well and judiciously

Plan works on a Country strategy plan in line with the Millennium Development Goals to ensure sustainable development

Plan is a transparent organization answerable to all its donors

Plan fundraising and marketing expenditure is 20% of the total amount raised, which means 80% funds would go directly towards implementing the programs

Why Children in Difficult Circumstances


Total Population: 1028610328 Under 14: 363.61 million(35.35%) India has the largest number of child laborers in the world it is estimated to be 17.4 million. There are about 2 million children employed in hazardous industries 90 million working children in the age group of five to 14 years. Disabled Individuals:21.91 million(2.13%)

Plan India Programs


Transit rehabilitation of former child labourers in Bal Ashram and creation of Child friendly villages or Bal Mitra Grams in Alwar district of Rajasthan-Till date 120 children have been rescued and provided educational and vocational training. Dreams on Wheels- ensuring child rights on four railway stations from (Hazrat Nizammudin, Faridabad, Mathura & Agra). Last year the program reached out to 630 children and 200 stakeholders Reduce Child Trafficking- A program that reaches out to more than 4500 children in villages of Rajasthan through awareness generation, encouraging childrens participation in village development and providing educational support to them.

Door Step Project- Reaches out to about 500 children in Mumbai

through its balwadi classes, study classes and informal education


classes. The classes are held at locations that children can reach easily, like streets or the pavements, when it suits them the best. CAB (Children Advisory Board)- A group of children from diverse backgrounds such as public schools, government schools, street children and differently -abled children selected through a competition for the Children Advisory Board to Plan India. This board takes on advocacy

campaigns (currently on child labor & education) and also advises Plan in
making its programs child-friendly.

UBR (Universal Birth Registration)Plan in collaboration with the office of the registrar General of India and UNICEF to ensure universal birth registration. Plan is working to ensure registration of all children below 14 in 7 states namely, namely Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. 170,000 children have been registered in 3 states in the last one year due to Plans efforts

HAAP (HIV / AIDS Awareness Package) Is a child- friendly kit developed by children themselves, comprising of puppetry, multimedia, comics, etc. to address the issue of stigma and discrimination. 1650 children were involved in making and field testing of the kit. Maitree- Aimed to empower the youth with a more responsible sexual behaviour. The program involves young people in decision making, provide employment support to them and involve them intensively in providing care and support to those already infected with HIV in their communities and six maitree groups have been formed. 1300 children

Tsunami Rehabilitation Programs- Disaster

currently benefiting more than 3000 children and their communities in the area. J & K Earth Quake- Plan is supporting 40 Umang Schools which are open schools that help children affected by the disaster to overcome the trauma. The program benefits

around 1807 students and 105 teachers

Plan Utsav was one of the very recent successful event which was held in Mumbai, the event was hosted by Anil Kapoor involving all famous film personalities. The event had children from Plan projects dance to Bollywood numbers with Bollywood stars, these children were trained by Shiamak Davar. The event had various elements including a ramp walk of celebrities with their children, art auction, and auction of Rolls Royce Phantom
