An entrepreneur is one of the most important inputs in the economic development of a country or of regions within the country. Entrepreneurial competence makes a lot of difference to the rate of economic growth of the country as well as the organization. Therefore, Entrepreneurial development programmes have a major role to play in developing and enhancing the competencies of an entrepreneur in the benefit of both- the organization and the nation at large.

ENTREPRENEURIAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME - MEANING

These programmes have a three tier approach : 1) Developing achievement, motivation and sharpening of entrepreneurial traits and behavior. 2) Project planning and development and guidance on industrial opportunities. 3) Incentives and facilities and rules and regulations and developing managerial and operational capabilities.

STRATEGIES FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Public entrepreneurship should remain confined only to those industries where private enterprise individual or corporate is generally not attracted. All possible efforts should be made very seriously for the development of an industrial culture. There is need to develop management education and industrial training. Development programmes for backward regions and areas should also be constituted. Adequate measures for mobilizing and fostering entrepreneurial talent in the country must be taken.

Objectives of economic policy should be such which favor overall interest of countries economy. Institutional framework should work towards meeting major industrial or economic needs or goals. Financial Institutions should provide adequate and timely credit and technical assistance especially to small and medium size enterprise Special categories of entrepreneurs Like women, retired army personnel, etc must also be considered for EDPs.

MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT EDP

EDP MEANDS ONLY TRAINING

Training is only one of the segments in the process of developing entrepreneurs

HIGHER THE NUMBER, BETTER THE EDP

EDP is a success with maximum number of participants

ROLE OF TRAINER

EDP SUCCESS IS THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF TRAINER/MOTIVATORS

EDP

CONCLUSION
Thus, as evident from the above discussion, we can conclude that EDPs are of vital importance to supplement the growth of entrepreneurs. EDPs provide a wide range of resources and enhance the competencies of a budding entrepreneur. However, in India, EDPs are basically state owned and are conducted for SMSEs to encourage the growth of entrepreneur in this sector for the welfare of the economy and general interest of the country at large.
