RAILWAY WORKSHOP ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT Introduction(ELECTRICAL DEPT.) Railway power house Diesel Power Station Train lighting
Refrigeration and air conditioning
INTRODUCTION
Electrical Department plays a vital role in the Railway System. . It is responsible for operation and maintenance of lighting and ventilation in AC and Non-AC coaches in railways workshop ajmer. The Electrical Department has been divided into two wings: -Electrical Services department -Railway power house -Diesel power station - Train Lighting & Air-Conditioning (TL&AC).
Lightning Arresters: A surge arrester or lightning arrester is a device connected between line and earth. To discharge lightning over voltages and switching over voltages to earth
Wave trap
To prevent high frequency signals from entering other zones.
isolators
Disconnection under no-load condition for safety, isolation and maintenance.
Transformer
Transformer is a static device which transfers electrical energy from one electric circuit to another electric circuit at constant frequency.
TYPES OF TRANSFORMER
According to Construction: a.Core type Transformer. b.Shell Type Transformer. According to the system of windings used in the Transformer. a.Single phase T/R. b.Three phase T/R According to system of cooling to the Transformer. a.ONAN (Oil Natural Air Natural) b.OFAN (Oil Force Air Natural) c.ONAF (Oil Natural Air Force) d.OFAF (Oil Force Air Force) According to use a.Power Transformers i.Above 500 to 15000 K.V.A. b.Distribution Transformers i.From 5 to 500 K.V.A. c.Instrument Transformers i.Used with the measuring instruments d.Auto Transformers Used for low voltage circuits.
Power transformer
CURRENT TRANSFORMER
Current transformer is used for measurement of current and as a protective device. It connect line to line in the sub stations. sec. turns > primary turns the ratio is given by I1/I2 = N2/N1
POTENTIAL TRANSFORMER
Potential transformer is used for measurement of voltage and protection
CIRCUIT BREAKERS
A circuit breaker is a equipment which can break a ckt automatically under fault conditions. TYPES OF CIRCUIT BREAKER Air blast ckt breaker Sf6 ckt breaker Minimum oil ckt breaker Vaccum ckt breaker
Diesel Power station is the most important part of Railway Power House. We can say it, an energy power sources for railway, when R.S.E.B. supply is failure due to any reason.

TRAIN LIGHTING
On the basis of generation following train lightning system are used : (EOG) End On Generation 1) Generating Voltage 415 V 2) Generating Voltage 450V (MOG) Mid On Generation (SGS) Self Generating System 1)24 V DC (from Alternator) 2) 110 V DC (Alternator)
End On Generation
In this type of system electricity is generated by power car. This system is used in trains having AC coaches like Rajdhani express, Shatabdi express etc. Two type of power cars are used 1) 415 V, 3 Phase AC 2) 750 V, 3 Phase AC
Mid on generation
This train lightning system is used on small branch lines, hill area. In this system power car is used in the middle of all coaches therefore it is called as Mid On Generator
Self on generation
In self generating coach electricity is generated in coach by the generating equipment. In old T/L system dynamo was used but in modified system brushless alternator are used
R-134 is compatible with synthetic oil. It is not much harmful to ozone layer and safe according to global warming.
