Reproductive Health Defined:

It deals with the reproductive processes, functions, and systems at all stages of life. Each person has the right to be well informed about reproductive health and to have access to safe, effective, affordable, and acceptable methods of control of their choice. In addition, an individual has the right to safe pregnancy and childbirth and to have the best chance of having a healthy infant.

To produce egg and sperm cells To transport and sustain these cells To nurture the developing offspring To produce hormones

Female External Reproductive System


Mons veneris is the fatty tissue that serves as a protective cushion for the internal reproductive organs covering the front of the pubic bone. Hair becomes evident covering the mons veneris and the labia majora during puberty. Labia majora are heavy folds of skin that surrounds the vaginal opening, the labia minora are two smaller folds of skin located within the labia majora.

Clitoris is the sensitive structure above the opening of the urethra. It is the homologue of the penis. Hymen is a thin membrane that stretches across the opening of the vagina and has small openings in it.

Female Internal Reproductive System


Ovaries are reproductive glands producing sex hormones called estrogen. Fallopian tube connecting an ovary from the uterus. Uterus a muscular organ b/w the bladder and the rectum that receives and holds the fertilized egg during pregnancy. Vagina function as the organ of sexual intercourse

How to protect the female Reproductive System

Monitor menstrual cycle Make a record of the number of days of menstrual cycle, if theres any cramps, mood swings or heavy menstrual flow. practice proper menstrual hygiene habits. Change underwear and wash genitals daily Do regular exercise and limit caffeine and salt intake in your diet.

Male External Reproductive System


Penis the male sex organ used for reproduction and urination. Scrotum holds the testes for protection

Internal Reproductive System


Testes glands that produce sperm cells Deferens composed of epididymis, vas deferens, and ejaculatory ducts. Accessory Glands composed of prostate gland, the cowpers glands and the seminal vesicles.

How to protect the Male Reproductive system


Keep your external organs clean to prevent infection Wear protective clothing and equipment that provides extra support for the penis and testes. Do the habit of examining your testes. Seek medical attention if theres any discharge from penis, tenderness in scrotum and rashes. practice abstinence.
