ABSTRACT

The study is about the learning styles of the students in the particular school. It consisted of two particular learning styles that researched in the paper; Field Independent Syles and Field Dependent Styles. The research was done by a few methods which are very specific and effectively in order to achieve the objective of the study. Data were collected through observations, conferences with the students and a research question paper. The result of the research question paper showed the percentage of the learning styles of the students.

INTRODUCTION
What are Learning Styles? Brown (2000) defined Learning Syles as they are the cognitive, affective, and physiological traits that are relatively stable indicators of how learners perceive, interact with, and respond to the learning environment .

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY & RESEARCH QUESTIONS

This study examined whether field-dependent/independent style awareness affectslearning outcomes and learning strategies used in a primary school in Maran, Pahang. This study investigated the following research questions: 1. To what extent does field-dependent/independent style awareness affect learning outcomes of the students in the school? 2. To what extent does field-dependent/field independent style awareness impact the learning strategies used by the students?

FIELD INDEPENDENT -Your ability to perceive a particular item in a field of distracting items.

FIELD DEPENDENT -The tendency to depend on the total field, to the extent that you do not perceive the embedded parts. -The total field is perceived as a unified whole.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
LITERATURE REVIEW
-According to Klavas (1994) North Carolina elementary school altered teaching methods to suit varied learning styles of the students based on the results of a Learning Styles Inventory. The teaching methods are actually should be based on the students learning styles. -Spires (1983) investigated and revealed that implementation of a learning styles program resulted in significant gains in reading and mathematics achievement on standardized achievement tests. PARTICIPANTS -A total of 60 students studying in SK LKTP Jengka 22 (Maran, Pahang) particicipated in the survey. All the students are in year 5 and 6 METHODS -The research was conducted by a few methods. Data were collected through observations, conferences with the students and a research question paper. OBSERVATIONS -Through observation, the students learning styles can be detected by their learning behavior. I observed them about 3 weeks. CONFERENCES -This method gave me more information by interviewing them one by one. It helped me to discover their learning styles, personally. RESEARCH QUESTION PAPER -The research question paper was used to examine the students learning styles. The result helped me in this study, indeed.

LIMITATION OF STUDY & FUTURE RESEARCH

-The research was done in a limited time, area and circumstances. -produced significant results concerning the learning syles in a primary school, further research is required with different age or groups, different types of learning, and different domains. -conducted to determine whether there are developmental differences in the effects of different style achievement and performance.

DISCUSSION & CONCLUSION

-Both styles are important and equally used in the school. -Brown maintains that F. independence/ dependence do NOT need to be in complementary distribution. -It is the burden of the teacher to understand the preferred style of each learner to find the appropriate way of presenting the material. -There is also a burden on the learner to invoke the appropriate style for the context.
