System of education in Australia

PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN AUSTRALIA

The basic system of education in Australia is 12 years. Primary schools and "high school" are based on the student's age, so that every room has the same age and hardly a student will repeat the grade in school. Students classified as weakers stay in the weakest groups. Classes or series are called "year. Most of the children enter primary school at the age of 5 years and children studies in primary school until year 7.

PRIMARY - YEAR 1-7 AND SECONDARY YEAR 8-12

Students goes to high school when they are 11/12 year 8 and only study in secondary school until the "year 10, with 15/16 years. The year 11 and 12 are optional (with 17 / 18 years) and intended for students who wish to go to university. Students begin to focus their studies for a range of skills. Students who have left school in the year 10 have the option of doing apprenticeship in order to obtain professional experience and to do vocational and technical courses.

YEAR 11 AND 12
The result of the last two years of school are obtained in the evaluation of the work throughout the year. The total average will be the basis for achieving a good position to go to university called OP. Over the past two years students begin to focus their studies for the professions. The student can choose either to study depending on the career he choose.

HOURS
The school hours are Monday through Friday, beginning at approximately 8:45am and usually ends at 3:00 pm, with breaks for lunch and snacks. Extra-curricular activities like sports, dance and others, is done after school hours and on Saturday mornings.

TRANSPORTATION
Government schools offer subsidized public transport if necessary but in general students who attend public schools live within the boundaries of the neighborhood school and go on foot or by bicycle.

DIFFERENCE OF PRIVATE AND PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN AUSTRALIA

There are public and private schools. Private Schools in general are linked to religion and offer more choices in music and sports. All wear uniforms but private schools are more restricted in the rules and regulations for using a complete uniform. The courses and educational standards of all secondary schools are similar and all schools prepare students for the same national qualifications recognized across the country.

SYSTEM OF EDUCATION AFTER HIGH SCHOOL

The education system in Australia is unified and integrated with qualifications levels. This means that the system is flexible, and endorsed by the Australian government, allows you to change your position in Australia without interrupting their studies, as secondary schools and tertiary institutions are subject to a national system homogeneous. Qualifications are recognized nationally and internationally.

UNIVERSITY IN AUSTRALIA
Australia has government universities and private institutions that offer programs called "Under Graduate" or the University course, and after graduation courses called "Graduate Programs and Post Graduate.

CREDIT EDUCATION IN UNIVERSITIES (HECS)

All Universities and Colleges in Australia are paid but the government gives an Educational Credit only for Australians. So Australians can study and the pay for it when they are employed and earning above a threshold value, and the value is to be discounted during many years. Graduate Courses are also offered with the same type of financing. If the student never gets enough money he will not be charged.

GUIDANCE IN UNIVERSITIES
Special programs in general are oriented at the beginning of semestre. This programs are often mandatory. The program will probably be included welcomed, notices about the course and registration, an introduction to college life and recognition of the university campus.

DURATION OF DEGREE IN AUSTRALIA

A college course usually takes three years, and can be done in just two years in some universities with fewer holidays. Most of the structures offer the opportunity to combine two qualifications so you can finish a University with a Double Degree "or a diploma with two graduations, making just one year of study. Ending the University you can get a Postgraduate Diploma, a Masters or Doctorate.
