Data:
A given, or fact; a number, a statement, or a picture Represents something in the real world The raw materials in the production of information OR Raw facts such as an employees name and number of hours worked in a week, inventory part numbers or sales orders

History of MIS
Business reporting was made manually and periodically June 1951 US bureau of Census purchased computer called UNIVAC1 meant for business purpose that does job of payroll, billing clerical and Account operations Using Transaction Processing system that involved financial accounting, transactions and similar functions Late 1960 most of GNP (Gross national product) came from information related activities. Gradual shift from industrial and agricultural related jobs to information related jobs. For banking, insurance and travel businesses MIS became vital and significant to lock in customers and lock out competitors Electronic data processing (EDP) Automatic Data processing (ADP)

Management Information System (MIS) Any System that provides people with either data or information relating to an organizations operation OR Is a subset of the internal control of the overall business that covers application, documents, technology and procedures by management accounts to solve business problems So MIS is a system that: support the activities of the people Provides effective supply of information Provides efficient processing of data Provide electronic data interchange (EDI) that links firms to its customers.

System:
