Since 1950, a substantial volume of study has gone into the facets of Entrepreneur Development in India.

The study showed that the entrepreneurs are born & can also be made. It is possible to identify the individuals in all communities with entrepreneurial talent, to motivate & train them through properly organized programs.

The EDP thus became a new concept for harnessing the vast untapped human resources. It strikes a welcome note in respect of change in perception & in recognition of critical role the entrepreneurs play in Industrial Development by creating potential avenues for self-development.

Entrepreneurship Development Program covers the entire venture creation process, from idea generation to building viable global businesses, with special emphasis on the nurturing roles of corporations, universities, governments, and foundations. Using entrepreneurial culture as a model, participants learn what they need to know in order to develop ideas into successful businesses and to increase entrepreneurial opportunities in their corporations, institutions, and regions.

A Faculty Development Programme (FDP) is designed to train and develop professionals in entrepreneurship development so that they can act as resource persons in guiding and motivating young persons to take up entrepreneurship as a career. The FDPs provide inputs on process and practice of entrepreneurship development, communication and inter-personal skills, creativity, problem solving, achievement motivation training, inputs on resource and knowledge industries. The training methodology includes case studies, group discussion, games and simulation exercise, field visits and classroom lectures.

EDP means programmes designed to help a person in strengthening his entrepreneurial motive and in acquiring skills and capabilities necessary for playing his entrepreneurial role effectively. A programme not touching entrepreneurial motivation and behaviour cannot be called as an EDP. EDP primarily focuses on developing those firstgeneration entrepreneurs who on their own cannot become successful entrepreneur.

EDPs should help develop latent facilities of those who possess the potential of becoming entrepreneurs. Understanding the type of input that are required by a group of entrepreneurs should be understood clearly & the training program tailored accordingly. Training be not only to set up an industrial venture but also to enable the trainees to run it successfully.

The focus should be on the persons rather than on the project. These programs should be conducted in place where necessary infrastructure for training is available. One of the objective of training should be on changing the attitude & mindset of young people from security oriented activities to risk taking activities.
