Childhood
Born on 28th December, 1932 in Chodwad, Gujrat. He was the third son of Hirachand Govardhandas Ambani and Jamnaben. Lived a life of impoverished dignity with his two daughters and three sons-Trilochanaben, Ramnikbhai, Jasuben, Dhirubhai and Natubhai

First Step
Started off as a clerk with the A. Besse & Co., named after its French founder Antonin Besse Moved to Mumbai in 1958 to start his own business.

Early years in Mumbai.

Launched himself as a trader in spice setting up office under the name of Reliance Commercial Corporation. The business was setup in partnership with Champaklal Damani, his second cousin.
Moved to textile industry also opened a mill in Ahmedabad

Reliance Textiles
Sensing good opportunity in textile business Dhirubhai started first mill in Naroda in Ahmedabad in the year 1966. Dhirubhai started the brand Vimal extensive marketing of the brand Vimal in the interiors of India made it a household name, Franchise retail outlets were started and used to sell only Vimal brand of textiles. In the year 1975. a technical team from World Bank visited the Reliance textiles. Reliance has the rare distinction of being certified as Excellent even by developed country standards

He died on 6th July ,2002 around 11:50pm. As a mark of this great business man, the Mumbai textile merchants decided to keep the market closed on 8th July, 2002. In November 2004, Mukesh Ambani in an interview admitted to having differences with his brother Anil over ownership issue

Now.Reliance
The Reliance Empire splits between the Ambani brothers. Mukesh Ambani gets Reliance Industries LTD.(RIL) and Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Limited (IPCL) Anil Ambani gets Reliance Capital, Reliance Energy, Reliance infocomm. Mukesh Ambani referred to as the Reliance Industries Ltd. Anil Ambani referred to as Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group(Reliance ADA group)
