A PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT OF A MICROCONTROLLER TRAINER KIT

Engr. Ronaldo C. Maano Engr. Roselyn B. Felizco

College of Engineering & Technical Department

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY (1)

The proposed study was conceptualized due to the following: Need to produce competent computer and electronics engineers; Quest for educational excellence in relation to CHED set requirements; Absence of trainers kits for embedded systemsrelated laboratory application;

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY (2)

Long wait for procurement of the said trainer kits due to the system of prioritization, allocation and budgeting; Instructors limited hands-on experience with the use of microcontrollers; and Assist in the cost-effective efforts of the college in purchasing various costly laboratory requirements.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The general objective of the study is to develop a microcontroller trainer kit that can be utilized by computer and electronics' engineering students for various MCU practicals.
Specifically, the research is aimed to:
To design a module that can be interfaced to a computer and can be used in performing different MCU-based laboratory experiments; To develop a trainer manual that will facilitate better understanding on the use of the MCU kit; and To evaluate the project in terms of functionality and cost effectiveness.

Conceptual Paradigm of the Study

METHODOLOGY (1)
Research Design
A quantitative type of research which is descriptive in nature will be used as a research design. Research and Development (R&D) will be the basis for all the designs that will come up in the study being proposed. A survey sheet will be designed to collect data both to confirm the objectives of the study and to evaluate the prototype. Since the study being proposed is descriptive in nature, simple statistical treatment such as weighted mean and the use of Likert scale to interpret the results will be utilized by the respondents.

METHODOLOGY (2)
There will be two sets of respondents to evaluate the study being proposed. The respondents will be conducting the study being proposed at the College of Engineering and Technical Department (CETD) of the Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation.

Evaluation of the prototype, however, will be conducted not only at the mentioned location, but on the nearby towns where microcontroller experts can be also be found. The said expert-respondents will be composed of computer engineers and electronics engineers in the nearby educational institution offering Computer Engineering and or Electronics Engineering courses such as AMA Lucena Campus, STI Lucena, and Southern Luzon State University.

METHODOLOGY (3)
Two forms will be used in conducting the study.

The data gathered will be tallied and collated to come up with the findings of the study.
Likert Scale will also be formulated that will help in interpreting the numerical results. An inferential statistical tool ANOVA will be used with the general perception of the respondents to the prototype.

METHODOLOGY (4)
Two forms will be used in conducting the study.

First, a survey form will be created which will contain questions confirming the need for a microcontroller trainer kit and the perceived significance of such in their educational development as well as questions for the respondents acceptance of the kit, if such will be created. Also, an evaluation form will be will be formulated containing various criteria to determine the prototypes functionality. Said evaluation will be in checklist format.
