INTRODUCTION
Currently, communication systems are based on either electronics or photonics Act as a bridge between photonics and electronics for communication

Plasmonics

WHAT IS PLASMONICS?
The term plasmonics is derived from plasmons It is the technology of transmitting light like waves along nanoscale wires A technology that squeezes electromagnetic waves into minuscule structures Mechanism: Light beam striking a metal surface generates plasmons, electron density waves that can carry huge amounts of data

Features
Frequency <plasma frequency ->reflected Frequency >plasma frequency ->transmitted Lower attenuation Generate signal in X-ray range Independent of resistive & capacitive effect Higher data transmission
Plasmonics

Limitations of present modes

Low data transfer rate

Time delay effects Increase in frequency increases the device temperature

Plasmonics

Advantages

Energy required is less

High bitrate Easier to design new optical material devices

Plasmonics

Disadvantages

For sending data even longer distances, the technology would need even more improvement
Plasmons tends to dissipate after only a few millimetres, making them too short-lived to serve as a basis for computer chips, which are a few centimetres across

Plasmonics

Applications
Plasmonic LED SPASER: Plasmonic analog of LASER

Plasmonsters : A faster chip

Invisibility Cloak Plasmonic Nanoshell Therapy

Plasmonics

CONCLUSION
It will drive us to a communication network world of high speed

The dream of making all-plasmonic devices requires further research

Finally, Plasmonics offers precisely what electronics and photonics do not have: the size of electronics and the speed of photonics
