A nuclear blast is an explosion with intense light and heat, a damaging pressure wave, and widespread radioactive material that can contaminate the air, water, and ground surfaces for miles around.
The atomic bombings of the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan were conducted by the United States during the final stages of World War II in 1945.
The war in Europe ended when Nazi Germany signed its instrument of surrender on 8 May.
Together with the United Kingdom and the Republic of China, the United States called for a surrender of Japan in the Potsdam Declaration on 26 July 1945,
Threatening Japan with "prompt and utter destruction". The Japanese government ignored this ultimatum, and the United States deployed two nuclear weapons developed by the Manhattan Project.
American airmen dropped Little Boy on the city of Hiroshima, followed by Fat Man over Nagasaki.
Hiroshima
Hiroshima was bombed on August 6, 1945 at 9:15 A.M Tokyo time. The bomber plane Enola Gay dropped the atomic bomb little Boy on Hiroshima. During the bombing of Hiroshima approximately 60,000 70,000 people were dead and about 140,000 were seriously injured.
Nagasaki
Nagasaki was bombed 2 days after the bombings Hiroshima i.e. 9 August 1945. The bomb Fat Man was dropped by Bockscar bomber plane. The Bomb Killed 42,000 people and injured 40,000 more.
of
Before &
After Bombing
60% died from flash or flame burns, 30% from falling debris 10% from other causes.
Injuries to persons resulting from the atomic explosions were of the following types:
A. Burns, from 1. Flash radiation of heat 2. Fires started by the explosions. B. Mechanical injuries from collapse of buildings, flying debris, etc. C. Direct effects of the high blast pressure, i.e., straight compression. D. Radiation injuries, from the instantaneous emission of gamma rays and neutrons
The economic effects of the two atomic bombings were quite big, for example, the non-military economic loss was 65 billion yen.
In Hiroshima, the costs, 884 million yen was higher than the cost of Nagasaki, 380 million yen. So, when the two cities were destroyed, all the economy in the area in every market went down: agriculture, industry, service, and military. This was a small disadvantage to Japan in WWII as factories were destroyed.
