Multiple Sclerosis

Description
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, autoimmune disease that attacks the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord, optic nerves).
Destroys Myelin- substance that protects nerves in the brain and spinal cord Interferes with communication between your brain and the rest of the body.

Theres a popular theory that gluten is a hidden cause, eliminating it may help Genetic: the disease isnt hereditary, but people with similar genes, like family, are at risk. Environmental: Most common in northern latitudes far from the equator

Signs
Impaired thinking Vision changes or painful eye movements- optic neuritis Sudden loss of strength in arms or legs respiratory difficulty changes in personality balance numbness- hands, feet heat intolerance

Symptoms
Mild Numbness/weakness in limbs, coordination problems, dizziness, double vision, tremor, fatigue Severe Paralysis, or loss of vision, usually one eye at a time, pain during eye movement (optic neuritis) The progress, severity, and specific symptoms of MS are unpredictable, vary person to person

Treatment
no cure effective strategies to treat attacks drugs, medications or shots manage symptoms, improve function and safety slow down MS progression to reduce future disability enhance the quality of life for people living with MS.

Life
Most diagnosed between ages 20 & 50 Sleep insomnia, stress, depression Live well, rest, stay cool, eat healthy, get exercise, relax. Most people learn to cope with their MS and continue to lead satisfying, productive lives
