Need for development of Santragachi Jn. Station (SRC) Howrah station capacity saturation:
7 PFs Nominated for often fall short for 39 pair S. E. Rly. M/Exp Trains Existing maintenance facilities at SRC Line capacity constraint between HWH and SRC to draw empty rakes.

Santrgachi Station:

Need for development of Santragachi Jn. Station (SRC) (contd.) Presently, Santragachi station lacks essential passenger and proper road connections. Hence the need to develop this station by upgrading the road connectivity to Kona expressway and by providing modern passenger amenities.

Santragachi Stn. Scope Of Works:


Work sanctioned by MoR in W.P. 2011-12 (Item No. 65) for Rs. 198.65 Crs. Elevated direct road access (12m wide) from Kona expressway to concourse level over platform no. 6 with elevated parking area (1000m2). Construction of 3 storey station building over PF 6 (9720m2). Developing of circulating area at ground level (5100m2). Replacement of existing underpass across Kona Expressway with larger one (7.5m wide 4m height) along with re-grading of Kona Expressway (approx. 2m)

Widen the existing slip road (300m long), providing access to station from Kona Expressway, from 4m to 6m wide. 12m wide FOB connecting all platforms (PF6 to PF1) with passenger holding area. Additional Passenger Facilities including: Additional platform shelters for all platforms, platform Benches, Escalators Augmentation of water supply by providing pipeline (2 nos 300mm dia.) between Shalimar and Santragachi station (6km) and provision of 2 numbers 30,000 gallon each R.C.C. overhead water tank.

Salient features : Continuous post stressed T- girders superstructure with bored pile foundation is proposed for the flyover spans except in the circulation area where a grillage of beams supported on circular columns is proposed. To accommodate 4m high subway, regrading of about 2.0m is required for Kona highway.
Provide separate subway RCC box 4m x 4m one on either side of existing subway instead of single cell 7.5m x 4m, to ensure hassle free traffic movement through the existing subway during construction period. During construction of subway and regrading of Kona expressway, it is proposed to divert the traffic to the part of new flyover.

The approximate length of the FOB across SRC yard shall be approximately 170m with a maximum span of 50m.

Pros & Cons of Alternate Alignment proposed


PROS
Better geometric road alignment. Ponds are not disturbed and can act as water fronts for future commercial developments. Part of flyover can be used as Kona expressway temporary road diversion during its regrading, so provides hassle free traffic flow. Ease of constr. of flyover & shall reduce constr. Time. CONS Gradient of flyover approach ramp shall be 4 to 5% to avoid Relocation of existing temple on Eastern Side.

Shalimar Station

Shalimar station being located in vicinity of Vidyasagar Setu, is suitable for development to serve as terminus for additional trains originating & terminating in Kolkata area. Presently, Shalimar station
Lacks essential passenger and proper road connections. One island platform.

Upgrading the road connectivity to Vidyasagar Setu Remodel the existing yard with the provision of additional 4 stabling lines and provide automatic coach washing plant . Provide additional island platform Providing modern passenger amenities

Shalimar Stn. Scope Of Works:


SANCTIONED IN WP 2011-12 (Rs. 192.44 Crs.)
Construction of ROB(12m wide,690m long) in lieu of Level crossings LC 2 & LC 3
Multistoryed station building (5400sqm) and Concourse cum waiting Hall (6000sqm). Development of circulating area and parking area. Provision of two subways (7.5m x 3.0m x 60m long ) connecting all the existing and proposed platforms. 12m wide FOB connecting all the platforms with elevated passenger holding. Provision of new island platform( 650m x 12m ) with platform roof coverings.

Shalimar Stn. Scope Of Works (contd.):


Yard remodelling & automatic coach washing plant. Augmentation of water supply by providing water treatment plant, 5 nos, 2lakh gallon each overhead water tanks, intake well etc. Extension & refurbishment of existing platform. Extension & refurbishment of existing platform. 12m wide FOB connecting all the platforms with elevated passenger holding. CTC between Shalimar-Padampukar- Santragachi.

Salient features : Continuous post stressed T- girders superstructure with bored pile foundation is proposed both for approach spans and railway span. The two subways are proposed to be constructed using box pushing technique.

IRCONs PROPOSAL:
MoR has conveyed acceptance to S. E. Rly. Proposal to assign the works of Development of Santragachi and Shalimar to IRCON. IRCON has proposed to take up these works on the following terms and conditions as that for assigned works to RVNL by Ministry of Railways : Management fee :- 8.5% of expenditure incurred on the project. Expenditure on consultancies shall be charged to the project.

Alternately, work can under taken on Cost plus basis, with IRCON as execution agency of S. E. Rly.
