Introduction

Nowadays high quality power is needed for medical, research and industrial applications to bring into a good quality results and for accurate evaluation. In this paper, an attempt has been made to improve the quality of power.

A single phase nine level cascaded multi level inverter with identical dc supply is designed to reduce the harmonic components of the output voltage Multilevel inverters continue to receive more and more attention because of their high voltage operation capability, low switching losses, high efficiency and low output of

Main feature
Ability to reduce the voltage stress on each power device due to the utilization of multiple levels on the DC bus Important when a high DC side voltage is imposed by an application (e.g. traction systems) Even at low switching frequencies, smaller distortion in the multilevel inverter AC side waveform can be achieved (with stepped modulation technique)

Multi-level inverter schemes

To synthesize a multilevel waveform, the ac output of each of the different level H-bridge cells is connected in series. The synthesized voltage waveform is, therefore, the sum of the inverter outputs. The number of output phase voltage levels in a cascaded inverter is defined by : m = 2s+1 where s is the number of dc sources.

the phase voltage is the sum of each H-bridge outputs and is given as:

Van=Vdc1+Vdc2+..+Vdc(s1)+Vdcs

Advantages of Multilevel inverters over twolevel inverter

Devices of lower rating can be used thereby enabling the schemes to be used for high voltage applications. Reduced total harmonic distortion (THD). Since the dv/dt is low, the EMI from the system is low. Lower switching frequencies can be used and hence reduction in switching losses.

Disadvantages of multilevel inverters

The number of isolated DC-links are more compared to a two-level inverter. Neutral point voltage variations. Power bus structure and hence the control schemes become complex as the number of levels increases. Decrease in Reliability

Conclusion
Using the MATLAB Simulink we analysed the performance of multilevel inverter.In this paper we are used cascaded multilevel inverter to minimize the harmonics distortion of output voltage and analysis the waveform of multilevel inverter. The output voltage waveform is approximated to sinusoidal. Due to this approximation to sinusoidal waveform, we increased power in many industrial application.
