Purpose- Explore future roles for US Army
Issues- Ethnic tensions, territorial disputes, potential for violence Problem- Armed conflict in 90s led to international intervention, US Army presence remains to date

Research Questions
Primary- What role might the US Army play in the future security of southeastern Europe? Secondary #1- What are the implications from strategic documents, policies, and plans? Secondary #2- What are the implications of US signed treaties, alliances, and agreements?

Assumptions
Potential for future violence exist

US Army remains integral part of US military instrument of national power in the area If a future situation in the area requires military intervention the US will participate

Scope- Utilizations for the US Army in the area
Limitations- Focused on the following states: Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia & Montenegro, Macedonia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Albania Delimitations Associated border states such as: Bulgaria, Greece, and Turkey Utilizations for the entire US military establishment Significance Reference points for Army planners Examine opportunities for economy of force
