Mc Carthy classified marketing mix into four broad groups called the four Ps of marketing: product, price, place & promotion. PRODUCT: The Hindu, started in 1878 as a weekly, became a daily in 1889 and from then on has been steadily growing to the current circulation of over 900,000 copies and a readership of over 3 million. The Hindus independent editorial stand and its reliable and balanced presentation of the news have over the years, won for it the serious attention and regard of the people who matter in India and abroad.

The Hindu is the only news paper which brings out supplements on all days of the week. On Mondays Metro Plus, Business Review. On Tuesdays Metro Plus, Open Page, Education & Book Review. On Wednesdays

The Hindu uses modern facilities for new gatherings, page composition and printing. It is printed in eleven centers including the Main Edition at Chennai where the Corporate office is based. The printing centers at Coimbatore, Bangalore, Madurai, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Vizag., Thiruvananthapuram, Cochin, Vijayawada and Mangalore are connected with high speed data lines for news transmission across the country.
Metro Plus & Job opportunities. On Thursdays Metro Plus, Science, Engineering, Technology & Agriculture. On Fridays Friday features covering Cinema, Arts, Music & Entertainment. On Saturdays Young World - an exclusive Children supplement.

PRICE :: Price is the one element of the marketing mix that produces revenue. In case of The Hindu, from Monday to Saturday, the price is Rs.3.20 containing 30 pages and on Sunday its Rs.4.50 containing 40 pages.

PROMOTION ::
The Hindu
The advertisement and sales promotion is mainly through hoardings, internet, televisions etc. Apart from that, they have their own advertisement department. Initially they have started their promotion in Chennai with free distribution of the copies at a very nominal cost which attracted many of the middle and elite section of the population. It then slowly spread its roots to the rest of the southern parts of the country. Now they are one of the leading news paper not only in the South but throughout the country with about 3 million subscribers. They had initially mainly targetted the middle class people.

PLACE ::
DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL:: They distribute the news paper through Agents, SubAgents, Dealers etc. The news that are to be distributed to far away place are send at night itself mainly by flight, railways, trucks so that they reach the readers as soon as possible. Their service is extremely good to the extent that there was no complaint till date.

SEGMENTATION ::
A market segment consists of a group of customers who share a similar set of wants. The Hindu is read mostly by elite and middle class people basically because its an English News paper. Employment seekers prefer The Hindu as it carries lot of Employment News. Students of Schools and Colleges also prefers this news paper because it covers all the areas. Even the Executives and employees prefer this news paper because it covers Business News, Detailed news about share markets etc.

SWOT ANALYSIS
The overall evaluation of a Companys strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats is called SWOT Analysis . STRENGTHS :: The usage of English language is extremely good. The Journalists & Employees working there are highly qualified . Impartial view points . Covers all sections of the news, whether its national or international news, sports, entertainment etc.

WEAKNESS :: Since this news paper is published in English, it creates a barrier for people who are familiar with the regional language . OPPORTUNITIES :: Since they cover all segments of the news they have a brighter opportunity in attracting people from all over the country . Straight forward and impartial views as is happening in the present scenario will always help to increase the circulation of this news paper . THREATS :: The price has to remain stagnant because of high competition High wages has to be paid because of their good work, but the revenue is not going up .
