A Computer can be defined as an electronic device that

takes input from its user, stores, processes data and generates the required output as per the processing instructions given to it by the user.

Hardware (computer) components, equipments involved in the function of a computer. Computer hardware consist of the components that can be physically handled. The function of these components is typically divided into three main categories: Input, Output and Storage.

Input Devices Output Devices Removable data storage Computer case

Keyboard. Light pen. Mouse. Webcam. Microphone Monitor. Speakers Floppy disk. Compact disc/CD Drive. USB flash drive. Memory card Central processing unit. RAM. Video card. Sound card. Motherboard. Power supply. Hard drive Serial port. Parallel port. Universal Serial Bus(USB)

Data ports

Data is stored optically on the surface of the disk. CDD have become the predominant removable storage media for PCs and can store 700 Mega bytes of data. A 4-pin cable from the power supply plugs into the CDD and provides power to it. Data to and from the motherboard is carried on a 40-pin IDE(Integrated Drive Electronics) cable.

1.

There are two types of Compact Disk Drives available for PCs CD-ROM(read only memory) is the older type. It can only read CDs.
CD-RW(Rewritable) units can read and write CD-R and CD-RW type disks.

2.

It is powered by a 4 conductor cable coming from the power supply.

Data to and from the motherboard is carried on a 40-pin IDE(Integrated Drive Electronics) cable. Data is magnetically on multiple rigid disks that are stacked up like pancakes.

It is powered by a cable with a 4pin connector that comes from the power supply.
It transfers data to and from the motherboard by means of 34 pin ribbon cable. It stores data magnetically on a removable floppy disk. Floppy disk hold 1.44 Mbytes, which at one time was a large amount of data.

The keyboard was the first input device developed for the PC.
Keyboard layout provides 104 keys organized as four groups:

1.

Alphanumerical keys(A-Z;0-9)
Location keys(home, end etc) Numeric keypad Function keys(F1-F2) Data is transferred to the PC over a short cable with a circular 6-pin Mini-tin connector that plugs into the back of the motherboard.

The motherboard is the main component inside the case. It is a large rectangular board with integrated circuitry that connects the rest of the parts of the computer including the CPU, the RAM, the disk drives(CD, DVD, hard disk, or any others) as well as any peripherals connected through the ports or the expansion slots.

Computer software is a general term used to describe a collection of computer programs, procedures and documentation that perform some task on a computer system. The term includes application software such as word processors which perform productive task for users, system software such as operating systems, which interface with hardware to provide the necessary services for application software. Software is computer programming code that provides a computer with instructions to perform specific task. Software performs the function of the program it implements, either by directly providing instructions to the computer hardware or by serving as input to another piece of software.

Software is generally divided into System Software and Application Software.

System Software includes compilers, loaders, linkers, and debuggers. Application software comprises programs designed for an end user, such as word processors, database systems and spreadsheet programs.

System software helps to run the computer hardware and computer system. It includes a combination of the following:

Device drivers Operating systems Utilities Windowing systems

System software helps to run the computer hardware and computer system. It includes operating systems, device drivers, diagnostic tools, servers, windowing systems, utilities and more.

The purpose of system software is to insulate the applications programmers as much as possible from the details of the particular computer complex being used, especially memory and other hardware features, and such as accessory devices as communications, printers, readers, displays, keyboards, etc.

Application Software allow end users to accomplish one or more specific (non- computer related) tasks. Typical applications include industrial automation, business software, educational software, medical software, database, and computer games. Businesses are probably the biggest users of application software, but almost every field of human activity now uses some form of application software.

Word Processing Software: This software enables the users to create and edit documents. The most popular examples of this type of software are MS-Word, WordPad, Notepad and some other text editors. Database Software: Database software allows the users to store and retrieve data from databases. Examples are Oracle, MSAccess etc. Spreadsheet Software: Excel, Lotus 1-2-3 and Apple Numbers are some examples of spreadsheet software. Spreadsheet software allow users to perform calculations. Presentation Software: The software that is used to display information in the form of a slide show is known as presentation software. Microsoft PowerPoint is the best example of presentation software

The task which is complicated can be done easily with the help of computer software

It saves time

It can be handled only by the technical skilled person The chances for affecting virus is very high Some of the software consumes much memory
