When we obtained our music video questionnaire we distributed it to mainly the age group of which our target audience was. This would allow us to understand how successful our products were and if the music video and ancillaries conformed to its genre to best appeal to the audience. In addition, we also questioned both sexes in order to gain a none bias result throughout the questionnaire. Asking both males and females gave a representative result that could be generalised to a more wider audience. It also allowed us to see if convention preference differs in sexes or if the conventions are preferred by the overall audience. Choosing both similar ages and both sexes to partake in our questionnaire proved successful as every individual questioned understood the narrative. This meant that our targeted audience was gratified and was therefore a success. The audience could follow the narrative and understand the issues being raised throughout the duration of the music video.

Within our music video we ensured that we had a variety of different camera shots and camera movements which fitted well when representing the narrative. We used long shots and wide shots to allow the protagonist to be presented fully to the audience, these shots also allowed us to show the surroundings. Midshots, close ups and extreme close ups were used to engage the audience more with the protagonist, this made it clear to the audience what the protagonists emotions were. Extreme close ups were also used to emphasise certain elements that we wanted to grasp our audience. We also used panning and tracking shots within our music video, this allowed the audience to feel as if they were following the protagonist and were involve in the music video. The tracking shots in the London scene follow the protagonist on his journey and the panning shots also follow the protagonist when he feels disheartened and sits in the middle of a busy street. Both the camera shots, angles and the camera movements were highly liked by our audience and got 100% positive feedback.

Do you think the mise-enscene fits the narrative?

The results of both these questions regarding the mise en scene were given as a rating. Both questions were answered with positive feedback and were ranked towards the positive ends of the ratings scale. The audience felt that the mise en scene within our music video conformed well to the soft rock genre and in addition conformed well with the narrative. This implied that the audience felt our narrative was conventional to the soft rock genre and the elements and conventions used were appropriate and recognisable to the audience of this genre.

The use of lighting was a important convention of our music video. The single spot lights within the dark wonderland was a recurring theme which we presented throughout our over product. This was a simplistic but effective idea and was also proven popular with the audience. The use of single spot lights are also conventional to the genre and can be intertextual within other soft rock music videos, therefore this could explain why the audience liked this method of lighting. The black and white colour scheme, was another convention which was kept consistent as it was also used within the CD digipak and the magazine advert. This colour scheme is also conventional to the soft rock genre and can be seen within other soft rock mediums, this may suggest why it was chosen popular by the audience.

Overall these final questioned gained mixed feedback. Half of the audience agreed that the editing matched the music video and also the visuals matched the narrative, however half of the audience did not share the same opinion. The additional opening titles that were edited in after the music video also obtained a mixed result. The editing changed pace throughout the narrative this may not have been made clear enough to the audience and the precision may not of been as accurate as the audience would of expected. However the lyrics and content of the song was the focus for when we changed the pace of the music video as we tried to run a narrative and create a narrative through the lyrics of the song. It has been made clear that half of the audience thought this was successful and the other half didnt. Despite the institutional information not being highly popular either we realised that this is essential for the music video conventions. Therefore including this within our product was not optional and had to be presented to the audience.

When we obtained our CD digipak and magazine advert questionnaire we distributed it to the age group of which our target audience was. This would allow us to understand how successful our products were and if the music video and ancillaries conformed to its genre to best appeal to the audience. In addition, we also questioned both sexes in order to gain a none bias result throughout the questionnaire. Both of these questions regarding how well the CD digipak and magazine advert represented the soft rock genre showed positive results. This emphasised that both ancillaries used generic conventions of the soft rock genre and were representational to the genre. The audience were able to identify the conventions of soft rock and identify them within our ancillaries therefore our aim to reach our targeted audience was successful. The camera shots used on both the CD digipak and magazine advert were also conventional to the genre, the mise en scene, lighting and colour schemes where representative of the soft rock genre and also conformed to the conventions of a magazine advert and a cd album cover. This was evident within the questionnaire also as the people who completed the questionnaires found the images on both products conventional.

The overall result obtained from these questions was the effectiveness of the colours presented in both products. The audience chose that their preferred element of the digipak was the colour scheme, this was also chosen most popular when concerning the magazine advert. The black and white colour scheme has been a recurring theme throughout the soft rock genre therefore we decided that keeping this theme consistent would further allow our products to sit under this genre. The contrast of black and white shows a representation of the conflicting emotions of the protagonist and could also connote the conflicting aspects of the genre. Soft rock is a juxtaposition in itself as rock is not generally categorised as soft, therefore that instantly causes conflicting themes throughout. The use of black and white is also sophisticated and professional, it introduces a more mature connotation to the prints and could possible gain a wider audience by increasing the age gap for these products.

Within the CD digipak we included a variety of camera shots. The midshots used on the front cd pane allowed the audience to engage more with the protagonist as you can clearly see his facial expression. The high angle used for the inside panes represent the protagonist as vulnerable and weak, this creates a element of empathy between the audience and the artist. Therefore I believe this is why it was chosen popular and conventional to the genre, as this can be intertextual to other real soft rock products and plays with the audiences emotions. The combination of the two images on the magazine advert was also very popular, with 100% positive feedback. Both images were close ups and further allowed the audience to clearly see his emotions. The combination and overlapping of the images is also conventional to the soft rock genre, it expresses his emotions in a dark and eerie manner and through this entices the audience.

Do you think the decision of keeping the font the same throughout was a good idea?

The font which we used was the same for both the chosen ancillaries, this was taken from a font website called Madhouse. We believed that this font was conventional to the genre and fitted well as an overall campaign for the products. We kept the colour of the font relevant to our black and white theme and used both colours in the font. This was desired by our audience as we gained 100% positive feedback for both questions concerning the effectiveness and suitability of the font. Using the same font for both products added a more professional look to our campaign, it was also evident when looking at real media products that keeping consistent themes like the font was something professional campaigns used when marketing a variety of products. Therefore we used this and was again popular by the audience. The consistency allowed the audience to build up a portfolio of products associated with our artist as they could see a clear resemblance between each product.
