Factual Grievance: when the legitimate needs of the employees remain unfulfilled Imaginary Grievance: because of wrong perception, wrong attitude or wrong information. Disguised Grievance: due to some family pressures and outside situations may be not related to organization.

Grievances resulting from working conditions


-poor physical conditions of workplace. - mismatch of workers with job. - unplanned changes in schedules or procedures. - non-availability of proper tools, machines and equipment. - tight and highly rapid production standards. - failure to maintain proper discipline. -poor relationship with immediate boss.

-wage rates and methods of wage payments. - leave - overtime - transfers - promotion, demotion and discharge. - lack of opportunities for career growth. - lack of role clarity. - penalties imposed for misconduct. - hostility towards trade union.

- over ambition - excessive self esteem - impractical attitude to life - poor self esteem

Management can learn about the dissatisfaction, frustration, or discontentment in workers mind and may try to take corrective action. A grievance system gives an opportunity to the workers to express their feelings, fear, doubts and dissatisfaction. Management comes to know about the behaviour and attitude of the superior towards their subordinates.

Every organization requires a permanent procedure for handling employee grievances. A typical grievance procedure is shown in the following diagram:

If the grievance remains unsettled, it is referred to an outside arbitrator for redressal.
