Situation
Management decides to integrate systems provided Cavin, Brenda and Martin come towards a joint recommendation. Cavin, Brenda and Martin have to take a call on how they are going to manage, when their Management decides to merge their systems. Challenge : Everyone needs different functionality to work efficiently

Problems with Martins in this Video

Dominating Passive listeners Not expressive Aggressive/Short Tempered Frustrated Not open for multiple options/views/narrow minded Not a good team player Due to the above behaviour, the three of them were in the middle of no where.

Linking Emotional intelligence with this Video

Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize our emotions, understand what they're telling us, and realize how our emotions affect people around you. Emotional intelligence also involves our perception of others: when we understand how they feel, this allows us to manage relationships more effectively. The video shows how Martin could have used EI to reach towards effective agreement in satisfied way.

By Expressing their feelings Considering others point of view He expressed his points firmly but friendly He reacted calmly

By Respecting each others work and idea Offering other to express their ideas in friendly manner Avoid forcing others Collectively working towards common solution by looking at everyones need which ultimately brought new idea of designing common system which includes all functionality they needed.

Summary of the Video


One can not achieve an agreement by I. forcing ideas on others or II. by not listening to them or III. by just knowing that he is correct But the same can be achieved if one can I. Listen actively II. Show others he can understand them III. Explain his feelings IV. Refer back to others ideas V. Work to a joint solution using everyones ideas, these all behaviour are noting but forms of EI. To sum up Emotional intelligence determine our success in relationships, work, and even our physical well-being
