Introduction
Advanced Micro Devices AMD is an American multinational semiconductor company based in Sunnyvale, California, that develops computer processors and related technologies. Its main products include microprocessors, motherboard chipsets, embedded processors and graphics processors for servers, workstations and personal computers, and embedded systems applications. AMD is the second-largest global supplier of microprocessors based on the x86 architecture (behind Intel) and also one of the largest suppliers of graphics processing units. It also a supplier of non-volatile flash memory.

Features of AMD Processor

Virtualization Security Power Efficiency Manageability Hyper Transport Technology Multi-Core Processing with AMD

AMD64
The first AMD64-based processor, the Opteron, was released in April 2003. Athlon64,Opteron(K8) AMD64 use Hyper Transport & Direct Connect Architecture. Operating Mode:
o Long mode o Legacy Mode

AMD Athlon Processor

AMD Athlon processor microarchitecture approach implements the x86 instruction set by processing simpler operations (OPs) instead of complex x86 instructions. The enhanced microarchitecture used in the AMD Athlon processor enables higher processor core performance and promotes straightforward extendibility for future designs. Superscalar Processor: The AMD Athlon processor is an aggressive, out-of-order, three-way superscalar x86 processor. It can fetch, decode, and issue up to three x86 instructions per cycle with a centralized instruction control unit (ICU)

Bulldozer
Bulldozer is Advanced Micro Devices' (AMD) Central Processing Unit (CPU) codename for the server and desktop processors released on 12 October 2011 with family 15h microarchitecture, the successor to the family 10 h (K10) microarchitecture M-SPACE design methodology. Instruction Set: The Bulldozer architecture, besides being compatible with the standard x86 instructions, will support the following additional instruction sets: SSE4.1 and SSE4.2 AVX (Advanced Vector Extensions) with two additional subsets, called XOP and FMA4 AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) LWP (Light Weight Profiling)

Comparison of AMD with Intel

AMD Processor Cheaper then Intel Processor AMDs techniques - they used not only pure speed but a more specific command kernel. By that the CPUs (i.e. AMD Athlon XP) were slower, but provided the same results as a faster Intel CPU (remember? AMD at 1.666GHz was the same as a INTEL on 1,8GHz) Intel Processor Faster then AMD processor because Intel Processor use Cache memory.

Conclusion
AMD concentrated on the PC and consumer market and cut the costs for their CPUs in order to be more competitive. Nowadays the AMD CPUs are hotter than Intel CPUs, therefore you will need a better cooling and your system will be a bit louder. AMD provides a dual core CPU for PCs longer than Intel and I guess they have more experience with these features.
