Problem Definition

Our government is facing the challenge to reach the whole population with adequate health services and to ensure proper utilization Large hospitals designed for the delivery of health services helps to serve only a part of the population Rising cost of maintenance of these hospitals has led to the failure to meet the total health needs of the community. Coastal areas of our district is lagging in adequate medical services and illiteracy has led to the lack of awareness of health services to coastal people.

Need for the study

Present health care delivery system has failed to meet the total health needs of the community An alternative model of health care delivery system has to developed in order to provide health care services that are reasonably inexpensive and provides the basic essential for rural population The health care services at all the three levels primary , secondary and tertiary care level are to be improvised and regulated to provide a uniform flow of health activities balancing the urban and rural health

Rationale behind the study

The health services should be organized to meet the needs of entire population in the coastal area and not merely selected groups Health services should be aimed to cover the full range of preventive , curative and rehabilitation services Health care services are to be considered the basic social services of a country

Objective of the study

To make the detailed study of the existing health care delivery system of our district. To identify the operational difficulties of primary health care centres To study the participation of the community in utilizing health care services. To design and develop a health care delivery system to handle diverse aspects of preventive , curative and rehabilitation services To make pragmatic and meaningful suggestions for more effective management of health care services.

Research Methodology

Health status and health problems are to be studied by community diagnosis Profiles relating these data requirements must be designed and primary data must be collected from few coastal villages of our district The recorded data must be analyzed statistically and compared with expected health care delivery system. The recorded data must be interpreted to identify the medical needs of the coastal areas

Research design
Population frame The frame includes the list of all the coastal villages of Kanya kumari district. Sampling method Simple probability random sampling technique is planned to be used for the primary data collection. Probability sampling technique is selected since the result can be generalized to the target population. Sampling unit Three villages out of all the villages must be selected randomly for complete enumeration. Statististical tool SPSS software can be used for interpretation and the generation of reports from the collected data.

Assessment of health status and health problems

Community Diagnosis A planned effort to measure health status and health problems and to develop health services

Resources

Health man power

Professionals Auxiliary(A technical person in a field with less than full training)

Scope of the study

The study is focused on the villages of kanyakumari district. Analysis of Health status and health problem at these villages would help to understand the health status Demographic profile , mortality profile , health problems profile must be studied to get an idea about the health status of those villages. Limitations of the study

The entire district when considered for the study would make the work more tedious so two or three villages are planned to be studied to make the work more feasible.
