The Background of the Study

Languange is one way to convey ideas from one people to another. By languange, someone can express their ideas, opinion, and other expresion. Human may not build an interaction with each other without using languange. There are four basic skills in languange, namely listening, speaking, writting, and reading. The researcher is going to discuss about writting in this research. How to improve the skill of students in writting by using a cooperative learning method. Commonly students find many difficulties in writting, because the miss of knowledgment of a student as individually. Every student has a different skill. They also have a different experience to express their idea in writting.

Based on the explanation above, the teacher should find a good solution in order to improve the students skill in writting. As indivially, usually students have many barries to express their ideas in writting. So through cooperative learning method in writting, students more creative in expressing their ideas. Through cooperative learning method students can share many experience each other in order to create many ideas, so the weakness of one students can be coverred by another students. The good ideas will create in writting when the student can get a good influence and inspiration. By using cooperative learning methode, the teacher can compare the improvement that student get, than writting as individually The explanation above as the reason why the reseacher took this topic in her research. Because this topic is interesting to be discussed. And the researcher will get the benefit in this study and also for another teacher.

The Identification of the Problem The problems of this research will be identified as follows: 1. The effect of using cooperative learning method in writing.

The scope and Limitation


Based on the background previously stated, this research are focused on the effect of cooperative learning method in writing narrative text. The limitation is the research focuses on the students ability in writing. In this case, the researcher limits only in writing narrative text on second year students of SMP Al-ULUM.

The Formulation of the Problems


The problems of this study will be formulated as follows: The formulation of the problems Does the cooperative learning method significantly affect in writing descriptive text?

The Objectives of the Study


In relation to the problems the objectives of this study are: To find out whether or not cooperative learning method significantly affect in writing narrative text.

The Significances of the Study


The findings of the research will be expected to be useful for: Students, especially in SMP AL-ULUM to sharpen and measure their knowledge in writing narrative text. The teacher of English who would give information or knowledge for their students in school especially in teaching writing. The lectures of English who would give learning teaching especially writing. The readers in general and the students of English department in particular who are interest in writing, especially narrative text. The other researcher as a resourceful information to know the problem of writing narrative text.

CHAPTER III Research Method


Location The research will be conducted to the students at SMP AL-ULUM in Medan. The school is decided as the location because the researcher finds that the student in that school have some difficulties in learning writting.

Research Schedule
The research is arranged based on the activities which the researcher will be done. The schedule of the research is very important in this research to know how the management of this research.

The Subject of the Research


The subject of this research will be done in SMP AL-ULUM Medan in 2012/2013, students class X-5, the class consist of 40 students. This class is chosen because the resercher finds that the students needs an important in writting skill.

The Object of the Research


The object of the research is the application of cooperative learning method in as an effort to improve students writting skill.

Design of the Study


This research will be conduct by using classoom action research (CAR) by hopkins (1993). CAR was done in two cycles. Each cycle had four steps: planning, action, observation and reflection (PAOR).

The Technique of Data Collection


This research uses quantitative and qualitative data for collecting the data, The Quantitative Data The quantitative data is value of the student learning results that can be analyzed descriptively. The technique for collection quantitative data will be take by computing the score ofwitting test. The test is multiple choice. There are ten items in multiple choices which will be given to the students after writting to descriptive paragraph and then the researcher will observe the improvement of their score in every meeting.

The Qualitative Data The qualitative data is the data that contains of information on the form of sentences that give an idea about the level of expression of the students understanding of a subject, views or attitudes of students towards learning the new method, the activity of students in the course, enthusiastic in learning, confidence, motivation, etc... The qualitative data are obtaines from observation sheet and interview. Observation sheet is uses to measure the lavel of students activities during teaching-learning process. Interview will be use to know students oponions or responds about the implementation of clusterring technique and the problem that they faced in writting.
