Completing the Contextual Learning Matrix Form

5. Copy the elements of the tool and common competencies from the standard. 6. Identify learning activities for each learning outcome of the module. 7. Identify the elements of the common and tool competencies covered by the learning activities. 8. Identify the learning concepts for each learning outcome.

Completing the Contextual Learning Matrix Form

9. Repeat steps 6 8 for the other learning outcomes of each module. 10.Check if all elements of the common and tool competencies are covered by the matrix. 11.Identify the learning activities, learning outcomes or tool and common competencies that covers the critical aspects of competency in the standard. 12.Identify the available learning materials for the learning activity.

Example of Modules of Core Competency

Automotive Service Technician NC I
Competency: Test, Service and Replace Battery Module: Testing and Servicing Automotive Battery

Example of Modules of Core Competency

Competency: Install, Test and Repair Wiring Lighting System Modules:

1. Installing Automotive Lighting System 2. Testing and Repairing Electrical System

Learning Activities
- major activities the trainee will perform to accomplish the learning outcomes of a training program.

Learning Activities Column

Describe briefly the learning activities.
The description should provide an idea of: what, how and where the trainee will do the activity. how assessment will be conducted.

Example: Learning Activity

MODULE TITLE: Testing and Servicing Automotive Battery

Learning Outcome 1: Identify and explain the operation and safe handling of different types of battery
Learning Activity 1: Using a laboratory manual, chemicals and needed supplies and materials, the trainee will study the concepts of electrochemical process by conducting an experiment in the training workshop. The result will be presented orally or in written format. Proper handling of chemicals must be strictly observed.

Example: Learning Activity

MODULE TITLE: Testing and Servicing Automotive Battery Learning Outcome 1: Identify and explain the operation and safe handling of different types of battery Learning Activity 2: In the training workshop, provided with the different types of battery and guided by an instructional materials, the trainee will identify the main components of a battery, differentiate and explain the uses of the different types of battery, and identify the hazards associated with battery.

The result of the activity will be presented orally or in written format.

Example: Learning Activity

MODULE TITLE: Testing and Servicing Automotive Battery Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate the testing of an automotive battery Learning Activity: Guided by an instructional materials and using battery testing instruments and an automotive battery, the trainee will perform the following test in a training workshop : specific gravity test cell voltage test load test The result of testing will be reported in a data chart provided.

Learning Activities Column

A learning outcome can have several learning activities to cover the:

Assessment criteria
Range of variables

Critical aspects of the competency

Underpinning knowledge and skills

Common and tool competencies

Learning Activities Column

Sequence the learning activities.
The learning activities should simulate the workplace environment.

Identifying the Tool and Common Competencies

Put one (1) to every element of common and tool competencies covered by the learning activity. All elements of common and tool competencies must be covered in the analysis of the core competency.

Learning Concepts
- the underpinning knowledge necessary in performing the element of competency. Technology

Math
Science

Communication (English)

Learning Concepts Column

Identify only the specific and relevant learning concepts. Identify the learning concepts per learning activity. A learning concept may appear several times in different learning activities.

Learning Concepts Column

Always refer to the:

Assessment criteria
Range of variables and the underpinning knowledge and skills in the standard Common and tool competencies

Learning Materials Column

Examine the content of the available learning materials. Identify the learning materials that match the learning activity.

Write the author, title and pages of the learning material.

A learning material may appear several times in different learning activities.

Learning Materials Column

A learning material may contain the: skills in performing the learning activities

learning concepts
