Definition
HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus)

is a virus that attacks the human immune system and then causes AIDS. HIV is a retrovirus belonging to the group of viruses that have the ability to copy its genetic material self-printed in the genetic material of the host cells. Through this process can kill HIV cells T-4. AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is a collection of symptoms caused by disease of the immune system by HIV. There are 2 types of the virus that causes AIDS, namely HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 is most prevalent in the western region, Europe, Asia and Central Africa, South and East. HIV-2 is found

Method Transmission of HIV AIDS

HIV transmission would be when it comes in contact or mixing with a bodily fluid

containing HIV, among others through:


Sexual intercourse with HIV-positive people, both heterosexual (other types) and

homosexual (same-sex) without using a condom.


Through blood transfusions and organ transplants contaminated with HIV. Through tools / puncture needles or other equipment contaminated with HIV as a

tool piercing, tattooing, acupuncture and others.


Removal from pregnant mother to fetus transmission during birth or through

breast milk to the baby.

Pathofisiology HIV AIDS


When HIV enters the human body, 3-6 months is called the window

period, ie a period of time in which a person infected with HIV at the beginning, but when the examination of the blood were negative, yet detectable antibodies to HIV. At this time this person can transmit HIV. HIV incubation period is the average of 5-10 years, the period in which the HIV virus into the human body to show symptoms of the disease.
