The inf luence of extra regional territories on the Caribbean

It is a dynamic and competitive industry that requires

the ability to constantly adapt to customers changing needs and desires, and to customers satisfaction, safety and enjoyment are particularly focus of tourism business.

Outbound tourism- This is where people leaving their

territory or country to go else where. For example, Caribbean nationals going to an0ther country.
Inbound Tourism- This is where nationals from extra

regional territories leave their country to go to another. For example, nationals from Europe coming to the Caribbean.

Accommodation- hotels, guest houses, homes etc.

Food and Beverage- farmers , restaurants ,etc.


Recreation and Entertainment- adventure, heritage

homes , Port Royal, hiking, dolphin cove, mystic mountain, carnival, Jazz and Blues , sumfest, spring break, ATI etc. Transportation- buses, cars, VIP service Travel- Bookings whether all inclusive or otherwise.

Ecotourism- Dominica, Belize, Guyana and Surinam

boasts rainforests as a result people who enjoys nature will find these countries suitable to visit. It aims at preserving the natural state of the country as it restrict as much s possible the building of high rising hotels. It can be seen as sustainable tourism. Adventure Tourism- in Guyana and Surinam because of the large rivers to do rafting and canoeing. In Dominica hunting and mountain climbing in St. Lucia.

Sports Tourism- usually associated with the sea such as

surfing, sailing, scuba diving, fishing etc. Blue Marlin Competition in Curacao. Health Tourism- people will travel to bathe in mineral water to cure sickness. Bath Fountain in St. Thomas Jamaica, volcanic area like Montserrat where there are many hot springs. Spas at the Hotels Enclave Tourism- Hedonistic behavior carefree style usually for spring breakers. It encourages promiscuity. Jamaica

Festival Tourism- people coming for festivals such as

Kadooment in Barbados, St Lucia Jazz Festival, Jamaica Jazz and Blues or Reggae Sumfest. Cruiseship Tourism- some people prefer the ship over the plane as mode of transportation and this attraction continues to expand. We see this in our recently built shipping port in Trelawny and our well known cruise Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Princess

For the Americans it is near. For the Europeans the

climate is suitable all year round. Elsewhere it is a site to see and experience what other develop countries nationals have experienced and are experiencing . Up until the 1960 it is said that Cuba was the preferred destination site until it became a communist state. This is so as the United States despise communist rule and many of the Cuban nationals took the initiative to migrate to the United States at this time. At that point Jamaica , the Bahamas and Antigua became the destinations for sun sea and sand.

In 2004 it contributes to 14.8% of the Caribbean gross

domestic product(it is the monetary value of all the finish goods and services produce within a countries borders in a specific time period. It is usually calculated on an annual basis). It represents 15.5% of total employment Jamaicas Tourist Industry accounts for 32% of total employment and 36% of the countries GDP in 2009. 13.8% of total GDP and represent 16.7% of employment in Trinidad (2005). In 2005 Barbados accounts for 15% of countries GDP

Dependency- the Caribbean countries over the years

especially, Jamaica, Barbados, Bahamas and St. Lucias economy are very dependent on the Tourism industry. This is evident in the large labour force created by the industry over the years. If at any point the industry is feeling a pinch families and individuals are also greatly affected because of the rippling effect it has on the country. The Caribbean is so dependent that if United Stated and Europe is having a recession our economy will be affected since those areas provide the majority of our tourists.

It dictates our marketing Strategy. Meaning most of

our products and services that are being marketed is geared towards attracting people from other regions to come and experience for themselves. Cultural erasure versus Cultural retention
