Swami Vivekananda on Yoga

The ultimate goal of all mankind, the aim and end of all religions, is but one--re-union with god, or, what amounts to the same, with the divinity which is every man's true nature. But while the aim is one, the method of attaining it may vary with the different temperaments of men. Both the goal and the methods employed for reaching it are called yoga, a word derived from the same Sanskrit root as the English "yoke", meaning "to join", to join us to our reality, god.

The different forms of Yoga that we teach are adapted to the different natures and temperaments of men. We classify them in the following way, under four heads : (1) Karma-Yoga -- The manner in which a man realizes his own divinity through works and duty. (2) Bhakti-Yoga -- The realization of the divinity through devotion to, and love of, a Personal God. (3) Raja-Yoga -- The realization of the divinity through the control of mind. (4) Jnana-Yoga -- The realization of a man's own divinity through knowledge. These are all different roads leading to the same centre -- God.

Swami Vivekananda on Human - Being

Swami Vivekananda on Spiritual Renaissance

To make people aware of the true aim in life and enlighten the masses about the true meaning of spirituality, Swami Vivekananda came to earth

His teachings and sayings convinced the devotees that God should always come first, before worldly concerns. Human life becomes drudgery, boring, and painful if materialistic longing is the goal, but the same life becomes meaningful, joyous, and inspiring, if spirituality is the goal.

"The Christian is not to become a Hindu or a Buddhist, nor a Hindu or a Buddhist to become a Christian. But each must assimilate the spirit of the others and yet preserve his individuality and grow according to his own law of growth." Everyone should follow his religion as the source of the highest truth and try to experience that truth therein

"Consciously or unconsciously, therefore, the whole universe is going towards that goal. ...But those who consciously strive to get free hasten the time. ...All are our fellow passengers, our fellow travelers all life, plants, animals; not only my brother man, but my brother brute, my brother plant; not only my brother the good, but my brother the evil, my brother the spiritual and my brother the wicked. All are going to the same goal; hurrying towards that infinite freedom..." -Swami Vivekananda

Swami Vivekananda on God

1. From whom all beings are projected, in whom all live, and unto whom they all return that is god. 2. The whole of nature is worship of god. Wherever there is life, there is this search for freedom and that freedom is the same as god.

3. Give up the burden of all deeds to the Lord; give all, both good and bad. Do not keep the good and give only the bad. God helps those who do not help themselves. 4. To him who has nothing in the universe the Lord comes. 5. God is present in every Jiva; there is no other God besides that. "Who serves Jiva, serves God indeed."

Ask nothing; want nothing in return. Give what you have to give; it will come back to you, but do not think of that now. -Swami Vivekananda
