For breathing unresponsive victim, place him or her on a recovery position

Mouth to mouth 1. Pinch the victims nose and breathe into the victims mouth Mouth to nose method 1. Performed like mouth to mouth except you forced your exhaled breath through the victims nose while holding his or her mouth closed with one hand pushing up the chin. 2. The victims mouth then must be held open so any nasal obstruction does not impede exhalation of air.

A foreign body lodged in the airway may cause partial or complete airway obstruction Common occurs when the victim has been eating Foods such as hotdog, candy, peanuts, and grapes are major offenders because of their shapes. Non foods are balloons, marbles, toys, balls, coins.

Some people are reluctant to perform mouth to mouth breathing on strangers for a variety of reason including fear of disease transmission. If the person is unwilling or unable to give move to mouth rescue breathing, chest compression only CPR should be given rather than not trying at all.
