Homeless Survey Results

Courtney Day

How old are you?

These results show that the majority of people that answered my survey were all 20-24. This is good as the age range that SASH use is 16 to 14. A lot of the people that answered my survey were 18 and 19 and a couple were 17. I think this is a good range of ages to use when collecting research about the product I am going to make.

Where are you from?

The majority of people that took part in my survey are from North Yorkshire. When I asked for more detail and asked what town the majority of people said they were from the Selby area.

How often do you see homeless people? Where?

My results shows that 60% of the people that took part in my survey rarely see homeless people. 20% of people often see them and 6% see them all the time. Most of the people seem to see them in cities rather than in villages. However someone has listed a typical stereotype of a bench.

What is you opinion on homelessness?

The results from this question shows that a lot of the people that took part in my survey felt sympathetic for homeless people. There are a couple that dont feel as sympathetic and feel as though they cant do anything to help or that people get themselves into this situation. Everyone feels as though it is major problem and would like to see the government do more to help them.

Have you ever been affected by homelessness before? If so, how?

These sets of result show that not a lot of people that took part in my survey have ever been effected by homelessness. 65% have never been effected where as 35% have. The majority of people who have experienced it first hand whereas others have witnessed their friends go through it. It is good to have this ratio as it will be easy to inform people on homelessness and let people know what to do if it ever happens to them.

What would know what to do if you or a friend became homeless?

These results show that if the audience or their friends became homeless they wouldnt know what to do. One person has heard of SASH already and the rest wouldnt know what to do. This is good as it means SASH needs to be shown a lot more.

How would you feel if someone you knew became homeless? Would your opinion of them change?

These results show that if someone the audience knew became homeless, they wouldnt judge or have a bad opinion. This is good as it may indicate that people would want to help homeless people and therefore turn to SASH.

How do you feel when you see a homeless person?

These results show that people that took this survey feel bad when they see a homeless person but that the stereotype is still there slightly. One respondent mentioned they get scared as they might be dangerous and this is the stereotype that might stop people volunteering for SASH.

Are you aware of the homeless services in your area?

This shows that the majority of the respondents do not know about the charities and organisations that are around to help homeless people. This means that we could get a bigger audience for SASH therefore, more volunteers.

Have you ever heard of charities dedicated to the homeless such as SASH?

This shows that over half of the respondents have never heard of SASH and this can be good for the new advertising techniques.
