It is an assessment which requires students to demonstrate a skill or proficiency by asking them to create, produce, or perform. It may be an observation of a student or group of students performing a specific task to demonstrate skills or mastery and/or knowledge through open-ended, hands-on activities.

Specific conditions necessary for a successful use of process-oriented performance assessment design
It can be diagnostic, formative or summative assessment. It should allow most of the learners to participate successfully in varying degrees. It should provide also with the most realistic assessment of job-related competencies.

Specific points to be considered by the user in designing performance-based assessment

The basic points to be considered are:

It should provide an excellent way to access reasoning skills.

It must have clearly defined criteria for the assessment.

GROUP ANALYSIS
Teachers need to give attention to students performance based tasks because there are some competencies of the student that cannot be measured in a paper and pencil test. Performance task also provides information about a learners ability to on organize, draw prior knowledge and experience, improvise, choose from a range of strategies, represent learning, and make decisions to complete a task. It also test the skiils in the affective, cognition, psychomotor, and perceptual domains.

Process-oriented performance assessment can be more appropriate when the student performs a task which is indicated in the process flow. It can be considered subjective, where the meaning of the observation is derived only by a professional judgment of what is observed. It should not interfere with the natural learning environment.
