How to Apply JAVA Patches

46

IBM Global Services India

How To apply JAVA Patches

JAVA pacthes can be appled through

SDM (Software Deployment Manager)

JSPM (JAVA Support Pack Manager)

Since NW 2004s it is the official tool for applying Java SPs and SP stacks

47

Copyright IBM Corporation 2003

IBM Global Services India

Advantage of using JSPM over SDM

JSPM can update the SAP Kernel, IGS and SDM. They are listed as components. Note: In case you want to update SDM it has a component name SAP_JAVASL.

JSPM orders the Java components in a proper sequence for deployment. When the product is updated with stack definition file, JSPM will check that the required set of components is complete. If instead SDM is used it is the user who must ensure that the complete set of components is selected for update.

How To apply JAVA Patches

Download required patches from service market place and save *.SCA file in /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in directory. JSPM will scan /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in directory and recognize the patches to apply

Now login to the server with SIDadm user Go to directory /usr/sap/<SID>/JC<Instance Number>/j2ee/JSPM Execute ./go

For e.g If you want to apply entire stack then select the first option Support Pack Stack Note : If you want to apply entire stack then make sure that you downloaded .xml file from service market place at the time of downloading the patches and copied it to /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in

If you want to apply only single support pack then select Single Support Package
etc.
