Minuet- a definition
(Fr Menuet, Ger Menuett, It Minuetto, Menuetto- made up!) A FRENCH DANCE IN A MODERATE OR SLOW TRIPLE METRE (three beats to a bar). It was one of the most popular dances in aristocratic society in the mid-17th to the late 18th century. It was used as an optional movement in Baroque suites and frequently appeared in late 18th century sonatas, string quartets and symphonies where it was usually paired with a TRIO.
