Education in a modern society is not only concerned mainly with the imparting of knowledge or the preparation of a finished product but also with the awakening of curiosity, the development of proper interest, attitudes ,values ,building of essential skills as independent study and capacity to think and judge for one self (Vats, 2000).

The scope of education has widened and the development of human capital is a national priority Education has traditionally been seen in our country as the primary path to success for career and financial security.

As technological advancement and the pressure of globalization increases, there is a need for a high educated work force and the necessity for students to continue beyond school education has increased( Garrison Jecency and Rodrigues ,2007).

Home Science is not just about educating women to be experts in home decoration, the subject is largely scientific in nature and requires an analytical mind and scientific acumen to excel. A practical approach, aesthetic, creative and rational attitude will be required to attain success in this field.

There is an increasing demand for Home science graduates in the present job market. This subject has diversified into many branches and keeping in mind the current job scenario and career options, the Home Science syllabus is being altered frequently.

Home science is a subject with unique blend of scientific knowledge about harmonious living, human values, nutrition, and aesthetic qualities .Today there are various branches of Home Science(Rajammal P. Devadas)

Preparation for career such as Nutritionist ,Dietitian ,Interior decorators ,Social welfare officers, Teachers and Research assistants etc . Ability to manage their home, the qualities needed for responsible and creative living in their present families and the families they will establish after marriage .

Get to work early on, within first 2 to 3 weeks; learn to manage your time. Set clearly defined goals for academic achievement . Pace yourself, work consistently throughout the academic year. Learn to relax and eat well when studying - eat sensibly before exams and 'feed' your brain. Don't work too late - no more than 50-60 minutes at a time, with 15 minute breaks.

Use a study time table - weekly, term and year . Use past papers for exam preparation. Find the most effective way of learning for you. Retain the balance between study, recreation & sleep - sleep is the best study tool) Stay organised and give your parents something to do, so they think they're helping.
