The tagline A viewers guide to turner classic movies emphasises the reputation of Rainman. The publication date of the magazine for 2005 suggests Rainman will continue to be watched.

THE MASTHEAD AND TAGLINE


The gold typography may also be an indication as well as the absence of a price that the magazine appeals to a more niche demographic and is not read by the average person.

The masthead consists of a golden sans-serif font with a close tracking. The style of the font at a first glance seems infantile, however the blurred The tagline also gives the reader a photograph in the background gives Now Playing a sense of summary of the magazines main sophistication. focuses.

The main image is a full length shot of characters Charlie and Raymond from Rainman. Now Playing magazine use the actors Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise to advertise the film whilst keeping their main focus on film. There is no focus on the celebrities themselves suggesting the magazine prides itself on reporting the film alone without glamorised representations of celebrities

THE MAIN IMAGE


The image summarises the film, Tom Cruise appears as suave in comparison to Hoffmans character.

Now Playing have taken a film poster to use as their cover. This puts emphasis on the film Rainman without giving its name on the front cover, therefore the photos of celebrities Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise are able to promote the film through their reputations.

The lead article 31 days of Oscar advertises the programming franchise that airs the Oscar season on cable networks during the academy awards season. This gives viewers and opportunity to watch the films nominated for academy awards and is a fitting lead article to the covers tagline.

LEAD ARTICLE AND ANCHORAGE TEXT


The 31 days of Oscar also acts as anchorage text. 3 layers of colours are used. 31 matching the title now playing. The 31 appears larger than the other typography within the anchorage emphasising the length of the Oscar season.

Oscar appears in red within the anchorage text which places a greater emphasis on the Oscar suggesting Now Playing only acts as a mouthpiece to show great films.

All of the anchorage text is shown in serif font suggesting an air of sophistication to the Oscars and whoever watches the.

THE EFFECT OF THE PARADIGME


Now playing effectively provides a viewers guide to turner classic films. A combination of the image of the 1988 film Rainman the dated anchorage text and the gold masthead the cover transports you back in time therefore coming across as a vintage cover which would appeal to those who like classic film. Now Playing appeals to a niche audience who like the dated image of the cover (considering it was published in 2005). The warm colours used and the shallow focus used for the main image places emphasis on classic films as its tagline says.
