OptiX Equipment Daily Maintenance Items

1. Keep equipment room clean, avoid moisture and mice.

2. Act as per SDH Daily Maintenance Proposal carefully, and keep a record.

3. Clean the fan screen every two weeks. Fan


must be on all the time.

4. Avoid man-made mistakes as possible as you can.

5. Always wear anti-ESD wrist strip.

6. Be careful about fiber and cable adjustment. NEVER forget to mark them before adjustment.

7. Check the transmission lines regularly. Test the working and/or protection fibers yearly if possible.

8. Keep the passwords in a secure place and modify it regularly, esp. superuser or administrator password.

9. Kill virus regularly.

10. UPS power supply should be equipped. Back up the computer regularly.

11. Unclear alarms should be checked thoroughly. In case of need, contact Huawei Office ASAP.

Alarm Muting

There are two ways to mute alarm:

1 the ALC switch on SCC/SCE board.

Attention: better leave ALC upward on SCC

Loopback Operation

Type of loopback

Software loopback: set via NMS; Hardware loopback: set using tail fiber and self-loop cable manually. Inloop: route signals from XC back to XC; Outloop: route signals away from XC back to interface port.

Implement anti-electrostatic measures

Prevent board from shocking during transportation

Avoid moisture

Special Precautions for Optical Board Maintenance

The optical interface which is not used on optical interface board should be covered with dust-proof cap.
The joint of tail fiber should be covered with dust-proof cap when the tail fiber for routine maintenance is not used.

When pulling out the optical fiber of SC/PC connector, the special tools such as fiber unplugger should be used to avoid the damage to tail fiber.

Special Precautions for Optical Board Maintenance

Always use optical attenuator.


Do not view the transmitting optical interface of optical interface board directly. Especially, BA2 and BPA boards. Use absolute alcohol to clean optical fiber joint and optical interface of optical interface board. Before pulling out optical boards, PULL OUT fibers first.

Place the boards with large heat productivity separately.

After maintenance, cover the subrack with its panel and close the rack doors.

Never logout NMS system during normal operation. No games.

Traffic allocation shouldnt be made during peak time.


NEVER install and remove power cable with power on.

2M trunck cables, for example). 4 Check board overheat, good wind flow at the ventilation opening. 5 Monitor the rack temperature in NMS.

Checking Orderwire:

1. Dial orderwire periodically, check whether the orderwire can get through, and whether the voice quality is good.

2. The orderwire should be checked once every two


weeks. 3. On ringing, SCC flashing: Talk is on or off? PMU ringing unit?(rare) 4. Overhead config: Boards enabled or disabled?

1. Maintenance of PC computer 1) Check hardware connection of the computer periodically. 2) No games, no copying file or software into NMS computer.

Regularly kill virus with anti-virus software of legal version to


protect the NMS against virus. 3) Perform hard disk defragment (disk scan and disk defragment) periodically on NMS computer.
