Asmaa Binti Mohd Shafie Sahida Binti Shafie

CONSTRUCTIVISM
Constructivism is an approach which all pupils build new knowledge and concepts based on existing knowledge.

In other word, constructivism is an approach to learning suggesting that children must construct their own understandings of the world in which they live.

IN CONSTRUCTIVISM,
pupils are encouraged to work in groups. Focus more on pupil-centred. -helps to develop their thinking skill as they are sharing and criticizing one anothers ideas. - helps pupils to lower their anxiety in learning.

Through constructivism, pupils can remember and learn the language better, as teacher builds new knowledge by relating it to previous knowledge.

CONT...
pupil-centered is the main element.
pupils are encouraged to participate in a teaching and learning process from the beginning of the lesson until the end of the lesson. constructivism gives pupils more freedom to explore and widen their knowledge.

ROLES OF TEACHER
The teacher helps pupils learn to acquire new knowledge and solve problems through pupilcentred active learning. The teacher plays the role of a facilitator - guides the pupils all through the learning process and not spoon-feeding them all the time.

ROLES OF PUPILS
Pupils are expected to be the ones in charge of their own learning Teaching is learner-centred : Pupils will be encouraged to build their own knowledge and contribute to the lesson More discussion will be carried out in class where pupils will be voicing out their views and even debating among their peers.

ROLES OF PUPILS
Pupils are required to discover and construct their own learning. Knowledge that they constructed will store longer in their mind compared to what is taught by the teacher directly.

ROLES OF PUPILS
Pupils are encouraged to speak the language even though they are only in year one where they may not be able to speak but pupils are encouraged to do so. Pupils are the main contributors in delivering ideas and opinions rather than teacher being the controller of the class.

EXAMPLE
In set induction, teacher will recaps pupils previous knowledge to build new knowledge. In this set induction, teachers will usually post questions to pupils. By asking feedbacks from pupils, it motivates them to think on their own instead of spoon feeding. It also develops their interests in learning. Thus, pupils will concentrate in a lesson and feel that they are part of the lesson.
