• ISO began in 1926 as the
International Federation of the
National Standardizing Associations
(ISA).
• It was disbanded in 1942 during the
second World War but was re-
organized under the current name,
ISO, in 1946.
• "ISO“ was derived from the Greek
ISO 14000
ISO 14000 environmental
management standards exist to help
organizations minimize how their
operations negatively affect the
environment and comply with
applicable laws and regulations.
The ISO14000 standards are designed
to cover:
• Environmental management systems
• Environmental auditing
• Environmental performance
evaluation
• Environmental labeling
• Life-cycle assessment, environmental
aspects in product standards
