Mckays class

I will be using the card system; I believe it is the most effective for tracking individual student behavior. There are six card levels; gold, silver, green, blue, yellow, and red. Everyone will start on green (clean slate) everyday. The golden card is the highest level that a student can strive for; it means the student is performing remarkably. The 2nd tier is silver, it shows the student is achieving above most of the other students. The blue card will be a caution to the student to change their performance. At level yellow, students are given a Time to Think Card so students will be aware that their behavior will not be tolerated . Red level would mean there will be more severe consequences for their conduct which would be a required parent/teacher conference or being sent to the principal. Students will be allowed to move up once they are on level blue or yellow, but not on red level. It will be an easy system of tracking since it will be set up on a front wall, with pouches for the bear-shaped cards. With students or myself able to move their cards, it should cause minimal distraction to the classroom environment. Each Friday, pre-filled sheets with the students name and status will be sent home for parents acknowledgement. If a student has more than three of one color, there may be a note from me explaining what is happening either good or bad with the students behavior. I would ask that those sheets be returned the following Monday with the parents signature.

For example, if a student had three yellows during the week, a note might look like this:

Dear Parent/Guardian, This is how your student performed this week in the classroom.
Gold Silver 1 Green 1 Blue Yellow 3 Red

I applaud him for his achievement with the silver and green positions. However, the yellow cards present a problem. As you know, this is a caution area. He has bee n talking in class during the time I am teaching, which distracts the class. I hope he now sees there are more appropriate times for talking, like during P.A.T time. Thank you. Ms Mckay

The students will earn coins at the end of every day if they are on green, silver, or gold. If on green, they will earn one coin. If on silver, they earn two coins. For those students that are my golden bears all five days of the school week, they will receive a certificate and three coins. Coins will be redeemed for the treasure box that has both small trinkets and other items such as sit at teachers desk for a day. Students may choose either kind if they have five coins. There will also be a team plan as well. The class would be divided into groups of approximately four students each. Teams would earn tally marks for group activities. Learning how to work together would be one of the benefits. Groups can earn marks for behaving well in specials, getting supplies the quickest, and recognition given by other staff out of class. Groups would be rotated once a month. Movie parties, field trips, and educational games are some of the rewards that groups can earn. With these two systems in place, I am sure instruction while in a good learning environment, can be achieved.

Here are the Rewards and Consequences I will use in my classroom. Rewards 1. Praise 2. Good Note/Call home 3. Prize box 4. Recognition/Awards 5. Extra Privileges Consequences 1. Warning 2. Loss of Behavior Coin 3. Note Home 4. Time to Think Sheet 5. Office Referral/ Parent Conference
