Semester 1 Grade 5 ICT for creating
At Grade 5, students develop skills in using ICT for problem solving, expressing ideas, and presenting information to different audiences. Working in all areas of the curriculum, students explore a range of ICT tools for example, basic editing tools such as !ord processing" and simple techni#ues for visualising thinking. Individuall$, students learn to process data in the form of text, images and sound to create planned information products, such as invitations, short stories, presentation files for example, a %icrosoft &o!er&oint file" The programs the students have been or!ing ith this semester include: "o er"oint# "ublisher and Google S!etch $p% 'tudents begin to use manual for example, proofreading" and electronic for example, spellchecker" techni#ues to identif$ t$pographical errors and make appropriate corrections. The$ use criteria, such as the accurac$ and attractiveness of their information products, to make (udgments about ho! !ell the$ meet their purposes. 'tudents begin to manage their files using simple !a$s of organising them for eas$ retrieval) for example, creating folders based on topics or forms such as stories, images, and pro(ects. The$ are introduced to the simple securit$ strateg$ of using pass!ords to protect access to their files !hen !orking on a net!ork. This semester, the students have created an ICT &igital "ortfolio !here the$ save and store published pieces of !ork, multimedia such as photos and videos and reflections about their learning in ICT. The students are using &o!er&oint to create their digital bank of evidence. The students are able to save their *igital &ortfolio to their o!n +', and share their ICT learning !ith families at an$ time.

ICT for communicating


'tudents continue to develop their skills in using ICT to communicate kno!ledge b$ exchanging email messages !ith others. When seeking ne! information on topics of importance or interest in all areas of the curriculum, students appl$ a set of procedures such as simple ke$ !ords" for locating information on the intranet and the Internet. +sing recommended search engines, students refine their search strategies to locate information #uickl$. At Grade 5, students use email using the Catholic -ducation .ictoria /et!ork 0 %$%ail suite", and !ebsites. When emailing, the$ successfull$ attach files and the$ appl$ protocols for sending and receiving electronic information.

The students are regularl$ involved in lessons around Internet 'afet$. *uring Term 1 the$ !ere re#uired to create avatars to represent themselves instead of a real photo on !eb2 tools and produce a document using &ublisher to displa$ important rules !hen using the internet.

A co!"uter avatar is a "ersonali$ed gra"hic file that re"resents a co!"uter user# Today in I%T we used the "rogra! htt"&'' www#!anga#co!'content'avatar(face(!aker to create avatars that I can use to re"resent !e instead of using !y "hoto online#

*uring Ter! 1 we have been e+"loring the "rogra! Microsoft )ublisher to design and "roduce a variety of "roducts# I used a ,lyer te!"late to "roduce a flyer all about %yber Safety# The ne+t slide shows what I created#

*uring Ter! 2 we continued to develo" and e+tend our skills in the "rogra! Microsoft )ublisher# -e were re.uired to design and "roduce a "roduct infor!ing an audience all about ourselves# /elow is the "roduct using a brochure te!"late#

SketchUp is a 3* !odeling "rogra! designed for architectural0 civil0 and !echanical engineers as well as fil!!akers0 ga!e develo"ers0 and related "rofessions# A feature of Sketch1" is the 3* -arehouse that lets Sketch1" users search for !odels !ade by others and contribute !odels# *uring Ter! 3 I learnt how to use Sketch Up software to create 3* !odels of !y choice# nce !y design was co!"lete I was able to use ite!s fro! the warehouse to co!"li!ent !y design# As a creative digital designer I en2oyed this task because it was so!ething I never did before and the tools are easy to use# I found the "rogra! challenging because there were so!e glitches that gave !e a hard ti!e !aking the house#
