Passenger Reservation System
 PRS networking of entire Indian Railway completed in

April 1999.

 Internet booking tickets in August 2002.

 Internet booking extended from 4 a.m. to 11.30 p.m.

from March 2005.

 Tatkal converted to separate coach in 2004.

 1 million passenger transactions one day.

 PRS is running in 1200 locations and in 4000 terminals.

Process of Reservation
 Passenger writes reservation requisition form.

 Submits to counter clerk.

 Counter clerk calls from screen.

 Counter clerk enters form data.

 Triggers R and T processing.

 On ok processing, Triggers ticket printing.

 Issues ticket to Passengers.

 Update the system status.


PRS Enquiry System
→ Indian Railway’s web-site, www.indianrail.gov.in offers

PRS enquiries on the internet Berth/Seat availability,

Passenger Status, Fare, Train Schedule etc

→ A maximum of 42 laces hits per day have been recorded

→ National Train Enquiry System (NTES) website, www.trainenquiry.com

gives dynamic information about the running status of any train and its

expected arrival/departure at any given station
