The Balearic Islands University was built in 1978.

The university campus is located 7,5km away from the city centre. Therefore, students get to university by car or public transport. The choice is the following:
Underground - On the 25 April of 2007, the first underground line (M1), which connects Plaza de Espaa with the University Campus, began.

Bus - The number 19 bus from Plaza de Espaa takes you directly to the University Campus.

In addition to the faculties situated on the campus of Palma, in the suburb of La Vileta, you will find a private university centre associated to the UIB, the Superior University School Alberta Gimnez. There are given the qualifications of Audiovisual Communication, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education and Journalism. The UIB has signed agreements of collaboration with the majority of Spanish universities and research centres in Europe, America, Africa and Asia.

Although there is a wide range of university studies, there are some which are not available. Therefore, students must go to other universities in Spain. DROPOUT RATE
We have a dropout rate of the 50% in Spain. That means that half of the people who start studying a university degree don't finish their studies. This could be because they don't think they are capable of finishing the studies or, maybe, because they don't have enough money.

Vocational Training

Introduction
The current education system allows students to choose the most appropriate formative option in each situation, to get a qualification to facilitate access to the labor market in the best possible conditions. Vocational training offers around 150 vocational training programmes, with theoretical and practical content appropriate to the different professional fields. The qualifications are valid in all Spanish state, with academic and professional value.

The number of students enrolled in vocational training, compared to other offerings, has increased since the previous year by 6.4% to 568 962 enrolled in the 2010-2011 school year.

How to get into the Superiorlevel Training Cycles

You can be admitted with the Spanish Baccalaureate.

Being 18 years old if you have a certificate in Middle Grade Training Cycles related to the one you want to get into.

Being 19 years old and passing a specific entrance test to Superior Level .

The Vocational training in Spain is structured in 26 professional families:
